Chiang Mai Zoo
Chiang Mai Zoo was setup in the year 1974 by The Zoological Park Organization, Thailand. It is located on the road that connects Doi Suthep and is surrounded by sprawling greenery. It is the only zoo in Northern Thailand where one can see various species of animals in their natural habitat.The zoo has hilly surroundings that consist of numerous wild plants and flowers in the midst of the natural landscape of valleys, streams and waterfalls. The zoo is one of the popular tourist attractions in Chiang Mai and attracts 700,000 visitors annually. The zoo houses over 7,000 animals, 4,000 birds, 475 mammals, 218 reptiles and over 1000 fishes.
The main attraction of the zoo is the pandas. The pandas at are kept in an air conditioned enclosure. They pull large crowds especially children to the zoo. Animals at Chiang Mai Zoo are well looked after and you can see them enjoying in their habitat. You can also feed some animals but first ask for permission from the zoo authorities.
Tourists can easily spend a whole day at the zoo in Chiang Mai. This place also offers many places where you can stop and buy something to eat. The admission fee to the Chiang Mai Zoo is 100 Baht (adults) and 50 Baht (children) if you want to see the pandas, although this is on top of the usual fee of 100 Baht (adults) and 50 Baht (children).
You can visit the zoo anytime from 8:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening. The panda enclosure opens an hour late at 9:00am.
