Getting to Krabi by Road
Krabi is one of the popular tourist attractions in Thailand. The small capital town of the Krabi province is located on the banks of Krabi River. Getting to Krabi by road is the most convenient way to reach this town. It is located just off Highway 4. By road, south of Bangkok is 814 kilometers, Phang Nga is 70 kilometers and Phuket is 185 kilometers from Krabi.For getting to Krabi by road from Bangkok one needs to drive down Highway 4. The 946 kilometers route will take you via Phetchaburi, prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumphon Ranong Phangnga to Krabi. Buses regularly run between Bangkok and Krabi. You can board a VIP bus, First class, Second class bus from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal. Krabi's bus terminal is 5 kilometers north of town.
For Getting to Krabi by road from Bangkok you can also take the 814 km route via Highway 4 and reach Chumphon. Then one needs to take the deviation to Highway 41. Move on till you reach Amphoe Wiang Sac and then switch over to Highway 4035 to Amphoe Ao Luk. Here you will find Highway 4 which takes you to Krabi.
Getting to Krabi from Surat Thani is also a hassle free affair. Buses run from Surat Thani to Krabi's bus terminal. Instead of boarding private buses it is always better to opt for government-run BKS buses. From Phuket to Krabi by road is almost 4 hours drive along Highway 402. One needs to cover a total distance of 185 km for this.
There are also regular bus services which departs from Phuket for Krabi every hour starting from 7.00 am daily. There is both A/C as well as Non - A/c bus services available.
Mini vans and Tuk- tuks are also other common modes of transportation available in Krabi. Motor Cycle taxis are also not unavailable. But one should fix up the rates before availing the services to avoid unnecessary harassment. Cars and rental jeeps are fairly priced and easily available. But make it a point to see that the vehicle you are hiring has got proper insurance cover.
'VIP' buses are also available which has got comfortable seats and also provide snacks, dinner and coffee in the morning. The average cost is around 900 Baht per person. The main bus depot is located around 3km out of Krabi Town center in Talaat Kao.
