Loy Krathong Phuket

The largest island in Thailand, the most populous and the most popular one- Phuket is a major watershed in the tourism industry of Thailand. And festivals and events in Phuket are more than you can even think of. In this cosmopolitan island there are festivals for every faith, every religion every race, and every kind of tourist for that matter. The Loy Krathong is one the most colorful and eventful of all festivals in Phuket. The Loy Krathong Phuket is celebrated every November on the full moon day by releasing small boats decorated with lamps, flowers and all into Phuket's waterways. The name Loy Krathong is derived from ("Loy"- to float, and "krathong" - a leaf cup or bowl).

Loy Krathong, the 'festival of lights' falls on the evening of the twelfth lunar month, when all Thailand busies themselves with the making of petite boats or ‘Krathongs'made of soft cellulose banana tree trunks, decorated and illuminated with flowers, banana leaves, three sticks of incense and candles are released on the water. This ritual is believed to drive away ill luck far away from them. As the boats sail off to the sea all you can see is a vast expanse of waterbed crowded with flickering flames sailing away to a neverland before being engulfed by the endless ocean.
