History

The King’s Cup Regatta was started in 1987 to commemorate the 60th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. The event has been organized every December since then.

Timing of the event

The Regatta is the region’s famous international sailing event and it draws some of the world’s best yachtsmen. This international yachting event is held in the month of December. The race starts on 2nd December and goes on till the 9th of the month.

Organizers

The event sees the gathering mostly on the Kata Beach. The fans and participants from all over the world come here. Organized by Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organizing Committee, the Regatta is held under the Royal Patronage of HM the King and under the guidance of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in collaboration with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.

Numerous activities

The Phuket King’s Cup Regatta is the jewel in the crown of Asia’s yachting circuit. The event takes place off the Phuket shores with various types of yachts from racing yachts and sport boats to cruisers and classics.

• 05/12/10 - Registration, Practice Race, Skippers Briefing. Opening Ceremony, Candle-light
• ceremony at Kata Beach Resort & Spa.
• 06/12/10 - Race Day One.
• 07/12/10 - Race Day Two.
• 08/12/10 - Race Day Three.
• 09/12/10 - Reserve Day.
• 10/12/10 - Race Day Four.
• 11/12/10 - Race Day Five. Royal Awards Ceremony.
