Suphanburi Thailand
Suphanburi is one of the central provinces of Thailand and was established during the Phanthum era and the place is characterized by small mountains and low river plains. Suphanburi is located 169 kilometers away from Bangkok. How to reach: Sophanburi can be reached by train from Bangkok that leaves at 4.30pm everyday. Buses leave every hour from Northern Bus Terminal on Phahonythin Road. Places of interest in Sophanburi, Thailand: Banharn-Jamsai Tower Chalerm Patara Rachinee Park: This is the first and the highest four-storey tower in Thailand. There are Thai patterned gardens around the tower and also playgrounds and food shops. Wat Pa Leylai: Located on the west bank of the Suphan River, this is a very ancient monastery. It contains a special Buddha image known as “Luang Pho To”. Fairs are held at this monastery in April and November. City Pillar Shrine: This is also situated on the west bank of the Suphan River and was originally constructed in wooden Thai design. It had two statues of Vishanu made of green stone. Presently it is in Chinese pavilion design. The Four sacred ponds: The local people believe that these ponds contain sacred water. Water from these ponds is used in various auspicious ceremonies. Wat Phra monastery: This monastery is almost 600 years old and was probably built during the reign of king U- Thong. at Sanam Chai: This is a deserted monastery. The monastery is mostly ruined. It has a large pagoda and some unknown human relics have also been found in this place. This has led the locals to name it as the “Unknown Warrior Chedi”. Wat Suwannaphum: The main attraction of this monastery is the Pun Punnasiri Museum that displays precious and interesting artifacts. The monastery is located opposite to the city hall. Festivals held in Suphanburi, Thailand: The only important and popular festival celebrated in this region is the Don Chedi Memorial Fair. The king Naresuan won a famous duel on elephant with an enemy leader at this spot.
