Only two places in the palace are open to the public. One of these is the Phra Thinang Withun Thatsana. It is an observatory built in a shape of a tower. The observatory has numerous balconies which provide beautiful views of the palace gardens. Phra Thinang Wehat Chamrun is the other place open to the public. This Chinese style building was used during the monsoons.

Apart from these buildings, the palace features other buildings such as-
  • Phra Thinang Warophat Phiman- This is a double storied building which was used as the Throne Hall and the royal living quarters. The hall has paintings of the Ramayana epic, Phra Aphai Mani literature, royal historic records etc.

  • Phra Thinang Aisawan Thippa- This Thai style pavilion is located in the center of a pond. It was built during the rule of King Rama V.

Getting to Bang Pa-In Palace, Ayutthaya

Travelers can avail the Chaophraya River Express Boat service on all Sundays. The service starts off from the Prachan pier. From Bangkok, there are river tours too. Buses are available from the Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. You can take the route Bangkok - Bang Pa In. And then, continue with a local taxi (Sam Lor) to Bang Pa In Palace

Travelers can take the train from the Hualampong station (Bangkok Railway Station) to Bang Pa-in rail station. There are train services available every hour from 6.40 in the morning to 10 at night. After reaching Bang Pa-in rail station, one can take motorcycle taxi or Sam Lor to the palace.

Helpful information The palace is open from 8.00 in the morning to 17.00 in the evening. Tickets are sold till 3.30 in the afternoon. The admission fee is 100 baht for foreigners, 30 baht for Thai adults and 20 baht for students, nuns and monks.
