Samuel Whitbread, founder of the brewing business was born in the main house in 1720. In the 1890's Trinity College Cambridge bought it with whom it remained until 1987 when it was converted to a hotel. In the Summer there is alfresco dining on the outside patio by the river. Wine features heavily and there are 40 wines available by the glass, which have been handpicked.

The contemporary riverside bar is the ideal place to unwind. Open from mid-morning to late evening, it offers a wide selection of refreshments as well as bar snacks. Seating is available both inside and outside by the picturesque riverside. A lovely setting to enjoy Afternoon Tea.

There is also the stunning old Tithe Barn, dating back to the 13th Century, with a traditional timber frame and a maximum capacity of 120, which makes a fantastic venue for events and celebrations.

The hotel is close to a wide range of attractions, such as Woburn Abbey and Safari Park and the RSPB Nature Reserve. Within a 25 mile radius are the towns of St Neots, Milton Keynes, Luton, Wellingborough, Northampton and Stevenage. Bedford Railway station, 2 miles from the hotel, takes from 15 minutes to London Luton Airport, which is 29 miles away, and from 40 minutes to London St Pancras International Station.
