Cranborne is the perfect stop on a tour of the beautiful counties of Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset. Children are welcome. Well-behaved dogs are allowed.

The village dates from Saxon times and has a beautiful Norman parish church. The village was much-visited by royalty in the past, from King John in the 13th century to Henry VIII who founded the hunting lodge in the village. This building was used as a base to create the manor house in 1611, a mixture of medieval walls and Renaissance architecture. In medieval times the village was a popular market town. In the 1980s there was a reproduction Iron-Age Round House built which is now part of the Cranborne Ancient Technology Centre.
