Part of the pleasure of running a restaurant in a National Park is the access it gives to locally produced food of the highest quality. The resident Head Chef uses beef, pork, venison and lamb which are raised on the hillsides surrounding Crickhowell. The fresh fish comes from Plymouth every day and not to leave anybody out the menu offer several attractive vegetarian options. There is also an interesting wine list featuring the most popular varieties sourced from the new and old world, plus two local bitters and two lagers on draught.

At 519 square miles, the Brecon Beacons National park has more than enough room for everybody, it is easy to escape the crowds and find solitude and great natural beauty. Walks can begin from the hotel and may include Table Mountain, Llangattock Mountain and the Monmouth and Brecon Canal. A short drive towards Brecon would put you at the starting point for an ascent of Pen-y-Fan. At 2,970 ft this is the highest peak in South Wales, the views and features and astonishing. Alongside the Brecon Beacons natural resources you could list the scores of man-made attractions such as the charming and historic market towns of Brecon and Abergavenny and the world heritage centre at irontown Blaenavon (featuring Big Pit – a journey down a real coal mine in a miner’s cage). Further South lies the city of Cardiff with its historic gondola-style Transport Bridge. Other attractions include langorse lake, Talybont Reservoir, the Usk Valley and town, and Monmouth and the Lower Wye Valley.

Crickhowell is a thriving market town snuggling between the Black Mountains and the dramatic Brecon Beacons in arguably the most beautiful valley in the National Park. Guests can visit this lively, friendly community with a strong identity, wonderful shops and many restaurants. There is plenty to do in the area ranging from pony trekking, fishing for salmon and trout, to adventure holidays like paragliding and hang gliding. Local places of interest are the big pit mining museum where you can actually experience what it is like to work in a coal mine. Abergavenny Castle and the Newport to Brecon Canal. Hill walking, wildlife conservation and other attractions in and around the area.
