My advise is to not mistake Miramar Hotel Bangkok as the same as Miramar group in Singapore. Miramar Bangkok is a nice place, done up extensively and is very impressive. Honestly, I am looking forward to staying in the hotel.
Upon arrival, I was a bit disappointed as I expected it to be the Big nice lobby but it turned out to be small but a cosy one. Very classy and boutique feel.. I would suggest that the lift to be done up as well, the lift area is half the size of a HDB flat in Singapore and looks very old.. a big contrast from the boutique feel from the lobby.
However, when the lift door open at level 6, the highest level where my room was allocated, I was impressed.. I sense the "Hotel Feel" as i stroll towards my room.
The room was nice. Normal Lock and key (no access card) were used where you got to push the lock button from behind whenever you leave the room. Key tags got to be inserted to activate the electricity in the room. Nice room and deco, seems very high class and its clean. The only thing in the room that is not matching is the old TV set. It does not have extensive channel as some other Bangkok hotel has. No Bomerangs, disney channel.. only 1 English Channel call film-max where old English films were shown. The rest were thai channels. There were a few Christian channels thou...
The Toilet was nicely painted with bright colors and nicely done up. Just that there is no Bath tub. However, the shower area is small where shower area and toilet area is separated by a toilet curtain. Good thing is that they provide basic toiletries.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Sometimes too helpful that when I put a "do not disturb" tag outside my door, they still come in to do up my room.. :). There are only a few staff do duty but they are extremely extremely helpful.. Like helping you carry bags, call cab for you etc. However, they charge for Internet and local calls out of Hotel.
The breakfast served were alright. Small buffet trays that served simple American Style breakfast such as sunny side up, toast, ham and sausages. Simple local food like fried rice and noodles were also serve. I especially like bread corner where cornflakes, milk, coffee, tea and fruits that were served. Probably I would suggest a change of menu as I am practically eating the same kinda food every day...
Overall, its a good hotel to stay in. The only thing I felt bad was the location. No MRT and BTS. It is extremely difficult to find where many taxi drivers do not know where this hotel is located. (Although is is very easy to grab a cab out to MBK).
The nearest MRT is Hua Lompong and the nearest BTS is at National Stadium where I have to cab to MBK everyday. The feeling of going back to hotel is bad. I would always take MRT to Hua longpom and flag a cab there to go back knowing the bad traffic condition. The feeling of going back to hotel is like you are leaving the fun and is going back to isolation. This hotel is good for people who wanted rest away from the city life. If you are going there for the nite life, shopping etc, I would not recommend this hotel unless you do not mind shopping at Chinatown, (10 mins walk away form hotel) where shops opened at 7.30 am.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay expect for the trip back to hotel every nite.
