This unique Georgian Lakeland property is just 3 miles from Keswick and within easy reach of Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere. Set in its own gardens situated at the foot of Cat Bells in the beautiful Newlands Valley, making it one of the best Keswick hotels. It is surrounded by fells; Skiddaw, Blencathra, Causey Pike and Swinside. The garden teems with birds, is visited by red squirrels, hares and has resident pheasants. Relax in the unimaginable quiet of the area taking in the wealth of exceptional views. The tranquil shores of Derwentwater are a 5 minute stroll away where the Keswick launch provides a regular service around the lake. The entire area is a perfect place for the nature lover as well as an ideal base from which to tour and explore the many treasures of the English Lakes.

Each en-suite bedroom is decorated and furnished in a country house style offering a high degree of comfort and relaxation. Each room is fully equipped with flat screen wall mounted television/DVD players and an excellent selection of DVD’s available at reception. Also included are a superb range of Duck Island toiletries, still and sparkling water and the comfortable beds are made up with the highest quality lightweight duvets and Egyptian cotton duvet covers. All rooms have fabulous views of the surrounding area so guests can sit back and soak up the surroundings.

The hotel takes great pride in the quality of the food served, the evening starts with aperitifs and canapés. Ingredients for the daily changing four course menu are sourced as locally as is possible, including beef and lamb from farms in the immediate vicinity, bacon dry cured by the local butcher and free range eggs, together with fish sourced only from sustainable fish stocks. Selections of fresh vegetables accompany the main course and each evening there is a hot plus cold dessert on offer. Coffee or tea and petit fours will round off a memorable evening. Dinner would be incomplete without fine wine to complement your meal. The wine list has recently been extended with an impressive choice of over 120 bins. Each wine is sourced from growers who use traditional methods.

The charming town of Keswick is within easy reach where guests can enjoy the delights of the market which is held on Thursdays and Saturdays. You can view the ospreys, which breed each summer through telescopes at Whinlatter Forest and Dodd’s Wood. Shooting, fishing, horse riding and golf can be organised for you during your stay. Also experienced guides for mountaineering, rock climbing and fell walking can be booked ahead of your visit. Mirehouse is an historic house with links to Tennyson & Wordsworth, set on the edge of Bassenthwaite Lake, where you can enjoy the priory walk, heather maze or rhododendron tunnel.
