Hotel Description

This charming coaching inn dates right back to 1624 and is a favourite with holiday-makers and walkers alike as it is so close to many well-known walks for all ages and abilities. The hotel has eight large, en suite bedrooms, some with four-poster beds. The friendly Badger Bar serves a mouth-watering menu of home-made food as well as a fine selection of real ales from local Cumbrian breweries, and depending on the season you can enjoy your sustenance in front of blazing log fires or outside in the attractive beer garden.

Nearby walks include the Coffin Route (part of an attractive circular walk talking in the shores of Rydal Water and Grasmere), Loughrigg, the Fairfield Horseshoe and many other walks of varying levels and lengths.

The Glen Rothay Hotel takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously - we now recycle over 95% or our waste. Even the scraps of cooked food are not thrown away; we feed the local badger population every night which is a popular spectacle for visitors, residents, locals and many a passing naturalist photographer. read more
