Hotel Description

The Pack Horse Inn is situated within the village of South Brent on the outskirts of Dartmoor with its open fires and traditional pub food. You will always be made to feel welcome.

Should you wish to eat we have a wide range of fresh local produce home cooked meals to choose from. Available Monday-Saturday lunch times & evenings and Sunday lunch time. Sorry no food cooked on a Sunday evening.

The Pack Horse Inn is the oldest existing Pub in South Brent, Devon. It has medieval origins and one of the beams in the pub is said to be off a medieval ship. The Pack Horse existed in the 14th century and could even be as early as the 13th century.
Built in the medieval times as a resting place for the packhorse trains that carried goods between the farmers and miners on Dartmoor and the trading towns closer to the coast, today it offers comfortable, well equipped bedrooms and a home cooked breakfast, with all dietary needs catered for.


So escape the Hurley-burly of modern day life and the intrusion of television, loud music and fruit machines and enjoy old world charm, real food, drink and good company at The Pack Horse.

There is a delightful garden to the rear and enclosed parking.

If you do find that you have arrived early and the room isn't ready you could always treat yourself to a yummy Cream Tea from our tea room and enjoy in our garden.

If you are here for a relaxing stay and wish to have breakfast a little later. We can arrange for you to have breakfast in our tea room up until 11.30pm. This is available Monday to Saturday, (not Sunday’s or the day of you’re departure) this needs to be booked the day before please

We offer you you're own separate entrance so your free to come and go as you please. So no need to end you're evening early encase you get locked out!

The property is ideally located in the centre of the historic village of South Brent close to the A38 Devon Expressway, halfway between Exeter and Plymouth. The Packhorse is great for hikers, with convenient access to Dartmoor, and 20 minutes to the seaside. Bring the rod, as its also a good spot for fishing! Ample free parking for guests. If you wish to bring your own bike we have dry storage to store them. read more
