The Mohegan Sun Casino is a Native American Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut and is open daily 24 hours. The 300,000 square foot casino features 6,300 slots and 252 table games.The Phase II expansion of the Mohegan Sun Casino combines diverse program elements in a rich architectural language that draws inspiration from traditional tribal myths and from geological and natural forms. Located halfway between New York and Boston, the complex is situated on a waterfront site in the lush woods of Connecticut. This monumental design incorporates a unique sensitivity to the natural landscape. The master plan efficiently deploys the major program elements into a compact arrangement, maximizing the amount site area that will be left undisturbed. The large podium and its adjacent parking structure are nestled into the foot of Mohegan Hill, establishing a relatively low profile. In addition, planted berms will screen the podium walls and minimize the exposure of its extensive volume.
The crystalline form of the hotel tower announces the casino’s presence. A tree-inspired, winged porte-cochere structure marks the entry to the new casino. At the northern end, a second porte-cochere is set within a glade of trees to announce the hotel entry. Rocks, trees, and water are used in the interior to create landscapes that simulate the surrounding woodlands. This project will triple the area of the existing facility, adding over 4 million square feet. The Mohegan Sun complex is crowned by the crystal-like 35-story hotel. Clad in a high-tech curtain-wall system, the hotel tower will provide 1,256 guest room, an indoor/outdoor pool with a landscaped terrace, as well as a health spa. An internal connection provides access directly from the hotel to the 100,000 sf convention center with separate kitchen and support areas. Other amenities include 25,000 sf of retail space, a 10,000-seat entertainment complex, 9 new restaurants and lounges, 6,500 parking spaces, and ample back-of-house interior programming. In order to create a clear relationship between the various elements of the project, KPF avoid the fragmented character of competing properties while still providing room for further expansion. When complete, this complex will constitute one of the most significant resort and convention destinations in the world.
