My family and I stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Fantastic breakfast. Everything we requested was fulfilled and the hotel met our expectations. We really couldn't fault anything except maybe a little more smiling from the staff. I would recommend this hotel for any type of traveller.

First time in Hanoi and first time...
First time in Hanoi and first time in Vietnam. Melia was a wonderful mix of modern comforts and charming, traditional Vietnamese style. I stayed in an executive room on one of the exectuvie floors. the cost was only a few dollars more and it was certainlty worth it to have access to all the wonderful facilities on level 20. Staff were always kind and courteous. Small matters like, fresh ice delivered to my room each evening and a free shoe shine service, were highlights. I would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone who travels to Hanoi.

My friend and I spent four nights...
My friend and I spent four nights at the Melia (apr 2006). Our first impression of the hotel was nothing special, but over the next few days we had many nice surpises: well-kept pool area, beautiful gym, great travel services, delicious breakfasts, and, most importantly, tremendous service from the Melia staff. The Melia is about a 10-minute walk to the lake/city center and there are some very up-scale yet cheap resturants nearby. The deluxe rooms are a bit sterile, but the suites appear much nicer and more spacious. If you book through asiarooms.com, please remember to take your voucher and present it at the front desk, or you will risk paying the hotel directly for the room.

The Melia is a good functional 5-star...
The Melia is a good functional 5-star hotel and very centrally located, with an ATM right in front and getting bikecabs and cabs is no problem. The room was a good size for a single person and the bathroom and mini bar were well-stocked. It's also easy to get to nearby attractions such as the prison museum, Nat Tho and the old quarter. What it sorely lacked were the 'extras'. The decor is cheesy and commercial. Although none of the staff were rude, they didn't smile and most didn't greet me. I found the lady manning the front desk somewhat rude when I tried to pay my bill in US dollars and was curtly told that old bills were not accepted in Hanoi. Unlikely to stay there again.

Although the service was quite good, the staff didn't go out of their way to make our stay extraordinary, which made it average. Everything was extremely average except the pool (below average) and the latin-style bar (way above average). The band was excellent, their musicianship rivals western standards and their style a unique blend of fusion, latin, jazz and rock. The bar itselg is brand new with a great stage and outdoor seating. It may be reason enough to stay at this very average hotel.

The hotel is situated in a strategic location I think, as it takes only 10-15 minutes to walk to the Old Quarter and Hoa Kiem Lake, and at the same time it is walking distance to the other fine hotels by the Opera House. But since it is a pleasant surrounding so you get to enjoy the walk as well! Hotel service was good, and especially excellent is the concierge desk that offered to keep our luggages at the hotel until we have completed our Vietnam travel or until such time when we are back in Hanoi, I mean of course we were only going to be away from Hanoi for 1 week. The hotel staff were very ready to help with keeping our luggages in their storeroom, and they were also very helpful upon our retrieval of the luggages. We also felt that we have gotten a rather good deal from asiarooms.com for such a fine hotel..... Breakfast is a like a whoel feast with lots of options and different culture foods.....
