On arrival we were horrified to have...
On arrival we were horrified to have to climb up & up stairs to a `deluxe`??? room with only a window to a blank wall.Next morning we were changed to a true deluxe room with balcony over the street on the ELEVATOR side (important). Nice dining area. Pleasant staff. Once used to the busy vibrant Old Quarter area you realise this is the only place to be. So handy to walk to anywhwere. HCM Museum,Army Museum one way & Hanoi Opera the other, the Hoak Kiem lake is the centre. Old Quarter the best area to locate.

The hotel was clean, tidy and functional...
The hotel was clean, tidy and functional although located in a rather downbeat area. However, the area was safe and conveniently located within walking distance of the city centre. The staff were helpful, rooms certainly adequate and breakfast staisfactory. Perhaps not quite right for our age group rather than anything really wrong with the hotel.

The desk clerk was most helpful, as...
The desk clerk was most helpful, as we left our bag with the passport and wallet in the taxi that took us to the hotel from the airport around midnight. The desk clerk called the taxi company right away, and we had our bag back with everything in it in a matter of minutes. The room could do with less furniture and antique displays for a small room.

The Hong Ngoc 1 is ideally located...
The Hong Ngoc 1 is ideally located in the bustling heart of Hanoi, a five minute walk from the lake and local services, bars, restaurants. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast buffets were good as was the buffet lunch. We would certainly stay here again.

Good thing about this hotel is that...
Good thing about this hotel is that its very near to the Old Quarter. But this hotel is probably more suitable for budget traveler.

Stayed on Mar 23 for one night...
Stayed on Mar 23 for one night and was mostly satisfied with the hotel and room. Just to clarify, the hotel does have an elevator if you stay on the floors to the right of the reception area. If you get rooms on the floors left of reception area, you have to hike the stairs. The room was a bit noisy because it faced the front street, it wasn't bad but noticeable if your a light sleeper. Bathroom was clean except the shower curtain didn't cover the entire length of the tub, so water did spray on the floor. Breakfast was okay, but could have had more selection. There is free internet on one computer so it's hit and miss getting access to the computer from other guests. Best time to was earlier in the morning. The hotel staff were great and arranged a taxi on short notice (5 mins) for our kayaking trip when the kayaking company didn't show up to pick us up. They were always willing to help. The location was great, walking distance to all the sites in the Old Quarter. Would recommend this hotel and would stay again if I travel back to Hanoi.

Our room was at the highest floor,...
Our room was at the highest floor, the block without a lif so you can imagine climbing up the stairs with the luggages, though we had a porter! The room was quiet although facing the road, and was nice and bright with side windows. The bedroom was comfortable but the furniture was boring. The service from the staff was very good, a nice breakfast and the location is great.

Nice hotel in a great location in...
Nice hotel in a great location in the old city. Plenty of things to see in the streets around the hotel and a short walk to the lake and some great food. Staff were great and the room was big and comfortable.

The employees were very pleasant and helpful and most spoke very good english. Same goes for the food and bar. Rooms were very neat and clean. I stayed twice and found it wonderful. I would not recommend the rooms in the front that are not accessible by elevator for the seniors, that would be the only tip. Complimentary breakfast was quite nice. Location was great to the lake, shopping and restaurants and touristy spots. Great for the money!
