This was a comfortable hotel in a...

This was a comfortable hotel in a quietish area of Hanoi. The staff were courteous and helpful. The food was good and we even benefitted from traditional Vietnamese music laid on for a tour group on one evening.

The Thien Thai hotel is a bit...

The Thien Thai hotel is a bit far from the lake, but not too bad. No coffeepot. Fair amount of street noise (horns) but that isn't really the hotel's fault. Request a room in the back.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Popular with...

Stayed here for 4 nights. Popular with French tourists. 1. Service: service is average and inconsistent, some staff are more polite and friendlier than others. 2. Room: rooms are terribly rundown, in our first standard room, the air con vent could not move and required a piece of scotchtape to hold it together... the deluxe room we upgraded to was equally old (but without any air-con problems). 3. Location: Too far away from Hoe Kiem Lake, requires at least 30 minutes walk. 4. Food: totally appalling, with very little selection and low quality, so much so we skipped 2 breakfasts. TIP: Order a cab from the hotel, it's much cheaper.
