On arrival, shown to our deluxe room as requested. Beautiful! Picture window overlooking the Old Quarter as promised and a small sitting area separate from bed area. Exhausted, lay down to rest. The jackhammer started. The chiseling. The sledging. Up to the next two floors I went. Renovations! Big time! A chat with the reception staff had us located to a room on a lower floor at the front of the hotel. A superior room of smaller size and facilities, I asked if I would be refunded. I was asked to see the manager in the morning. Our new room ..... smaller but somehow cheerier, quaint and homely in an antiquey kind of way with timber paned beveled glass windows and a view straight into the trees. We loved it! In the morning the manager explained that we would get a rebate for the difference in cost to the room plus a 20% discount for the inconvenience. Couple this attitude with the wonderful demeanor of all the staff we came in contact with and you have a recipe for a guaranteed return and recommendation. Thank you, management and staff. Larry.

The room was just nice with a reasonable location to move around. As there was a renovation at the hotel, we had to use the steps to go to 2nd floor. We pity those who are on above floors. The hotel service was good and we had a lovely steamboat meal in the evening. Recommendation to have better promotion of the hotel and its facilities. Probably some speciallity of this hotel to be advertised. The check out was a bit hassle as I recommend that the customers should be able to settle all bills smoothly. The call taxi to the airport was not good and would need the hotel to look into the matter closely as the driver was rude. All in the hotel has served us what we needed for a holiday and we would want to try the hotel in the near future to experience its beauty.

The hotel was nice and clean. Size of the hotel was suitable. The bathroom flooded every time we used the shower but wasn't a major deal as the bathroom was cleaned every day. Breakfast was good. I DON'T recommend for couples to use the massage services on Level 10 (you could probably think of why). We were put in separate rooms which was not the problem but I don't think it would be suitable for couples because if you refuse a service, the lady continuouly asks and questions 'why not?'. We were also pressured to give a tip, and also pressured to give a higher amount. Overall, the hotel was nice and clean. It is a further from the actual hustle and bustle of the main area so if you don't like walking, you would need to catch a taxi to the Lake area.

The hotel was ok, but I don't recommend using the massage services. There was not initial mention of the need to tip - but it was not the cost of the tip that bothered us, but the fact that they recommended the amount for tipping. Not only that, when we said that we wanted to discuss among ourselves and the receptionist what was the usual procedure, the masseur blocked me and prevented us from leaving the massage room! Service was not professional. In general, there is a need to exercise caution when using services involving human interface in Hanoi. The hotel is OK and within expectations for the price, but avoid the massage services at the top floor.

Thien Thai Hotel is alright on the...
Thien Thai Hotel is alright on the whole. The location is not the best but you can walk to HK lake and West lake (10 to 20min). You probably can stay in another hotel for about the same price in the "happening" district. General condition: Old. In need to make-over on the whole. Rooms: Clean and reasonable in size. A bit old looking but I would say its in pretty liveable condition. They still use the key drop system. I didn't really like the idea of the boiler in the bathroom - its just funny to have to go to the washroom for a glass of water. Service: Staff are pretty friendly and nice. They need to grasp the concept of being quiet at night and in the early morning though. Sometimes they just yell to each other across the floors and we can hear that in the room. It can be pretty irritating when you're asleep. Breakfast: Can be better. We stayed for 8 nights there. After the 2nd/3rd day, we know what we will have daily for the rest of our stay. The menu essentially doesn't change. The other issue would be the ventilation of the eating area - the frying of the eggs and generic cooking lingers on your clothes and in your hair. So do sit FAR FAR away from the cooking zone by the lone "chef" unless you want to smell of yummy "sunny side up" for the rest of the day. The cranky lift - the one and only lone lift. Super old and slow. Then again, if you aren't in a hurry most of the time - it really doesn't matter.. No other other facilities in the hotel. Didn't bother us. We weren't there for the facilities anyway.

Location of this hotel is fine; out of the busy centre of Hanoi a little bit but not far to walk (10 min).Close to some interesting sites too. The room was very nice, cleaning etc. everyday; size quite comfortable.Facilities were good;we´ve enjoyed the good breakfast buffet very much. The reception was quite friendly and helpful, if neccessary.By our arrival they change rooms without problems into one with two beds on our request. For the small pocket is this place maybe too expensive, but for the price (comparing European prices) you´ll have all you need for a pleasant stay. We stayed 3 days in the beginning of our trip and should like to come again without hestitation.

Had a week stay at the hotel, considering the price i paid, it is indeed a steal. Big enough room, reasonable service, nothing much to fuss about. The rooms were clean and neat and when they said they provide coffee and tea facilities they really do. They provided a hot water boiler and a hair dryer in the hotel, praise worthy service indeed, considering the amount i paid.

The hotel was satisfactory. Value for money in Hanoi is nowhere near as good as elsewhere in Vietnam. HOwever this hotel is on a par for its price with others in the same category that we looked at . The room was nice and clean even had a safe. Best was the breakfast buffet, which was sensational. Other meals can be had at the hotel, but they didn't tell us that. Location was good. Staff very friendly and helpful.
