this hotel is very 70s spirit.The rooms are from this period and never been modernized. The staff is not so sympathic and even some are really rude. The price is very high for what this hotel offers.Many hotels less cheaper and better in Hanoi. the main thing is really that this hotel is old fashion way and sometimes dirty.

Loved this hotel. Stayed in it first...
Loved this hotel. Stayed in it first night in Vietnam and then went tripping around, couldn't wait to return to it on the last night in Vietnam. Everyone could speak fluent English and doormen where just absolutely brilliant. Everyone was really friendly and food was great too. Would definitely stay here again as location is great also.

I really liked this hotel. The...
I really liked this hotel. The rooms were HUGE and very clean. Bathroom was also spacious. Breakfast was good. It is located in the Old Quarter practically next door the Hoan Kiem Lake. We were only here for 1 night and wanted to stay there again on our way out of Vietnam but unfortunately they were booked out. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The Zephyr hotel upgraded us and we had a terrific time. The room was extremely comfortable. It is a wonderful boutique hotel with lake views and convenient to the French quater and Old quater of Hanoi. The breakfasts were generous and provided a great variety of different items to choose from.

We booked a suite and paid quite a lot by Vietnam standards and were disappointed in the end. There were no disasters - the hotel is right on the lake and a quick walk around the lake leads you right to the waterpuppets and the old district - so location gets a tick. While the foyer and the brochures look the part, the rooms are a bit tired and worn, however. Clean, but worn. We were wanting a little luxury and comfort and thought booking a suite and paying more than you would expect to pay in Vietnam would provide that - but it didn't. What it did give us was one big room with a big window overlooking the lake - and the hotel restaurant puts on a great breakfast which, for us, was included in the room charge. If you can get a reasonable rate for this hotel, I would consider this hotel - but if you are wanting a room that you look forward to returning to, look elsewhere.

We had a "deluxe room" but it was extremely small, overlooked the lobby (ie. no windows facing out), and the room was extremely dark. The lighting system was totally inadequate. The service (front desk) was not the best, besides the very helpful bellboy. The breakfast buffet was, however, superb.

Very comfortable hotel, perfect for travellers who want to spend their time exploring the amazing Hanoi City. The staff made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful. Returning to the hotel after a hard days sightseeing to the delicious basket of fresh fruit was an added bonus. A very good hotel for people travelling alone, couples or groups.

Our second stay here while in Vietnam...
Our second stay here while in Vietnam - both stays booked well in advance. Excellent location. We booked the "Suite" which was lucky, as we saw other rooms, and they were disappointing. Airconditioning was still faulty. Food was safe, good and moderately priced. As per precious visit, reception staff seemed unprofessional, and either unable, or uninterested in helping with various enquiries. We didn't feel very welcome, and also feel we were given misleading tourist information - maybe just a language problem - but we felt they were laughing at us struggling with tourist information. The staff on duty during our stay had almost no English. If ALL you need is a room, book the suite as the location is perfect.

Very good location. Our room was comfortable, spacious and clean. Good bed. Air conditioner was faulty, and not fixed when reported. Restaurant was reasonably priced, clean, and the food was good. They were happy to modify the spicyness to our tastes. Stored our luggage for us overnight while we went away for the night. Also arranged pick up from the airport - not cheap, but reassuring. We had a lot of difficuilty with reception staff, who were determined not to help us book the tours we wanted. They had their own contacts for tours, and simply would not book the tours we found on the Net. Unfortunately, we do not speak Vietnamese, and their English was very poor. So book before you go.

THE BREAKFAST WAS VERY NICE WITH A GOOD SELECTION OF WESTERN FOODS AND SOME ASIA DISHES. I ALSO ENJOYED THE LOBBY BAR / COFFEE SHOP. IT WAS A GREAT PLACE TO STOP OFF AFTER SHOPPING OR OTHER OUTINGS. THE STAFF WAS PROFICENT IN ENGLISH SO COMMUNICATION WAS NOT A PROBLEM. OUR ROOM HAD NO VIEW, HOWEVER MANY ROOMS DO. THE LOCATION IS GREAT RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE LAKE AND LOCATED IN THE OLD DISTRICT. PLENTY OF SHOPPING AND SIGHTS ONLY A STROLL AWAY.
