We spent one week in Hanoi in...
We spent one week in Hanoi in July 2007.The Zephyr Hotel is very well-situed in the center of Hanoi, a few meters from the Tortle Lake and 20 minutes walk from the Old Quarter. Zephyr Hotel is a recent hotel, the breakfast buffet is nice, the rooms are quite alright, but ask for a room upstairs, on the 1st floor it is quite noisy from 6 am ! And ask as well for a "non-smoking" room if don't want a smelly room ! We experienced just a little negative point, when we were about to leave and wanted to take a shower before going to the airport, the reception told us that the shower was out-of-order, which was naturaly not the case... Summarizing, good value, well-situated and not very quiet if your in the upper storeys !

This hotel I would consider are advertising themselves incorrectly, I found the staff basically rude, and uninterested to help. The hotel is very overpriced for what they offer, the rooms I found dirty, the welcome fruit basket two green plums that I could barely cut with a knife, the views are not as described. The mini bar and services are very expensive. The English television channels did not work (nice to relax after hot busy day sight seeing) this hotel spoilt my stay in Hanoi due to the rude staff, and the overpriced rooms, you don't get anywhere near what you pay for. The staff have no idea, and seem to be all trainees who giggle at you when trying to express concerns and barely speak english. The only good thing about this hotel was the door men who always smiled, helped and were pleasant. - I would definatley not recommend there are a lot of better hotels at more reasonable rates. Our tour guide has cancelled all future bookings here and was just as disgusted at the service, quality and price.

Although the room was not ready when...
Although the room was not ready when I checked in late afternoon, in general everything was satisfactory. The two best things going for this hotel are the friendliness and efficiency of the staff (who were great)and the wonderful central location. A bit overpriced.

The room size is not what was...
The room size is not what was advertised in their website. There are many more hotels in the vicinity that offer superior facilities for a cheaper price. The command of the English language in Vietnam is not quite yet to TOURIST grade. Which is very understandable as Vietnam is only at the begining of it's tourist boom. English amongst the Zephyr hotel staff is really quite poor. The staff are certainly nice, friendly and smiling. It seems to me the behind the scene managers leave a bit to be desired. I felt quite cheated on the overall Zephyr deal.

Nicely furnished, cosy hotel with excellent location...
Nicely furnished, cosy hotel with excellent location and service.No need to take transport, easy to get to the popular areas like Hang Gai street, church street and Hanoi Tower by walking, with the lake as a guide. Would definitely consider this hotel again

Great location. Staff are friendly and willing to help. Bed was too hard, but had clean cumfy pillow and doona. Quite small but ok for a few days. Was clean and overal good experience.

We enjoyed our stay very much, the...
We enjoyed our stay very much, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. As it was our honeymoon we enjoyed romantic strolls around the lake. The only down side to our stay was the internet was down whilst we were there. The height of the bath may also make it a little difficult for older guests as it was even too high for me.

A pleasant small boutique hotel, good location and warm and satisfactory service. We stayed in a suite probably one of the best rooms in the hotel cleaniness could be better (carpets need relacing).

the hotel was everything that we needed and handily located within walking distance to the sites around the lake. Breakfast was great with a wide selection on offer both Vietnamese and European. Friendly staff made the stay enjoyable. Would recommend to others and would go back

Zephyr Hotel is in a great location...
Zephyr Hotel is in a great location (on a street off the road around the Hoam Kiem Lake, a couple of buildings from the corner) and is overall an excellent choice to stay in Hanoi. However, there are a few things to beware of before booking. There are many different kinds of rooms and the pictures you see are not an accurate representation of what they are like. There are 4 different grades of rooms and prices. We had originally booked a Deluxe room and thought that would be sufficiently nice for a short stay. The information had been also that the Deluxe rooms have a 'lake' or city view. We had been given a 'city' view which was in fact a view of the internal stairwell of the hotel! We upgraded to a suite, were promised a lake view but it was more like 'lake glimpses' if you stood outside on the small balcony 6th floor (no railing) and craned your neck. Very few rooms have a proper 'lake view' and they are only the suites and then only a couple of the suites - I think 601 and 603 and the equivalent on the 7th floor. The Deluxe rooms at the front definitely only have lake glimpses. The suite we got also was just one large room with a sofa at one end. Despite all this, the room was a good size for us + 2 small kids. Being aware of these things prior to arriving would help to adjust expectations appropriately. I note from other reviews that we are not the first to have this problem at the Zephyr. The staff were very nice but really had little to offer. The service overall was good and always with a smile. Only other minor comment was the breakfast buffet did little to inspire and the pastries, at least when we ate there, were day old.
