It was an amazing hotel. We stayed club which meant we had access to the club room. You could get complimentary drinks, canapes and drinks in the afternoon and breakfast down in the club room. Lovely views out on to the lake. There is also one of the oldest temples right next to the hotel which is worth checking out. The room was lovely, clean, spacious with a view out over the rest of the lake looking over the pool. The room was a little cool because of the weather (it was the winter) but we were comfortable and content. The staff, particularly Tuan, were lovely and friendly. The food was AMAZING!!! Wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel. The only thing to note is that it is a little way out of Hanoi so you need to get a taxi (about 15mins) into the city centre but it isn't a hassle and it is quieter being slightly further out of the city.
Not up to international luxury chain hotel quality
The hotel situated in a good location, yet the quality of the hotel and its service provided is far from what people would expect from such a international recognized brand. The walls and other fixture are wearing out, bathroom towels are turning yellow.
Worse of all, the management team of the hotel is causing the hotel brand name become shameful. They charge us US70 for use of club service which never happened. Internet are charged for unreasonable price when most hotel provide for free.
Overall, this hotel should be wiped out from consideration. Don't book it just because it is Intercontinental.
The Asia Room booking for this hotel is confusing. Lowest category is "deluxe" room, middle category called "luxury" room and highest is "club". Turns out the deluxe and luxury are the same room (city view) but "deluxe" is fully paid in advance and "luxury" paid to the hotel on check-out. I thought "luxury" which was almost 50 USD more was a pool view room and was very surprised to learn I was paying more for the lowest category room. Fortunately, Intercontinental was kind enought to upgrade me to a pool view room.
The hotel is a wonderful way to get out of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi with its incessant noise and honking of motorbikes. But it is overly expensive when compared with similar quality hotels in Hanoi. Cost did not include breakfast and even internet is charged at an expensive rate.
A beautiful idyllic hotel, calm and soothing sitting over the lake, quite expensive, but worth it if you can afford it, about 10 minutes in a taxi to the centre, so be prepared to get taxis around a lot, but be sure to pay no more than $5 instead of the hotels recommended $10!
We spent our first 3 days in Hanoi at the Zephyr hotel because of it's proximity to Lake Hoan Kiem and the Old quarter, but were very disappointed in the room standard. However our last 4 days at the Intercontinental Westlake were superb. We were upraded to an over-water room with buffet breakfast thrown in,and the staff & facilities were excellent.Taxi to the main shopping area ,old quarter & markets was very cheap and it was a pleasure to return home to the more peaceful surrounds of the Westlake area. Our first booking via Asiarooms was very streamline and uncomplicated and we will not hesitate to use them again in the future.
