Hi, I recently stayed at Vien Dong...
Hi, I recently stayed at Vien Dong on my trip to Ho Chi Minh and i must say the hotel staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and willing to help you out to get to any destination. They'll hail a taxi for you which can be quite difficult sometimes and they have security guards outside the hotel who help you cross the extremely busy roads.
The hotel is very clean, and quite professional and the rooms are an adequate size providing you with complimentary fruit and water every day. The breakfast is quite nice and fresh, although my friend and i only went down there once to have breakfast because we slept in late all the other days.
The only downside was the health spa on level 2. We were quite looking forward to this as just a way to chill on our first night. But after our foot massage the staff asked for tips, and we had just gotten into the country for the first time and weren't familiar with converting the currency. so we gave a tip and they complained it was too small. While we were trying to figure out how much to give them they started laughing at us and got their friends over to have a conversation about us and tried to pressure us into giving them more and more money. This made us feel extremely uncomfortable and did ruin our initial view of the hotel. Im not sure if they are affiliated with the other staff of Vien Dong, or if they just rent the space to run their spa but the way they treated us was very different to the hotel staff. Despite this experience we had a great time in Vietnam and ill definitely go back to stay at Vien Dong, ill just completey ignore level 2 next time. Besides if you are interested in health spas there, because they are quite cheap, there are other ones close by that look legit.
