For value for money the Rex was an excellent hotel. Few hotels in big cities in Vietnam have great views and no noise, this is a reality of life. However the rooms clearly seemed to be positioned to minimise the noise level out on the always busy street. The location in HCM city could not be better...central to everything. The staff were always helpful and polite. The atmosphere of the hotel is lovely. Inside the hotel is a quiet oasis in a very noisy city. The breakfast provision was excellent. Wide range of food. My teenage son thought it was a great hotel...and that is a tough test to pass. Pauline, Australia

services are excelent. facilities are good. bathroom is somewhat not safe for old folks and children: why? 1/ glass shelf is too low, anyone can bump the head to the glass-shelf everytime while using the sink to wash face or brush teeth... 2/ bath tub is slipery while shampooing or soaping and hard too walk out of bathtub. Should have safety handle to hold for getting out, friction material on tub surfaces.

The Rex is in an excellent location,...
The Rex is in an excellent location, but at present that is about all I can say it has going for it. There is a lot of construction going on, and has been for some time according to the plan on the ground floor, and our room was next to this. It seems as though they are letting the whole hotel run down while this construction takes place, I can only assume they are planning to refurbish the whole hotel once completed. Please note that this is still going to be a long way off as the construction is still in the foundations. The atmosphere in the rooftop garden was nice, but drinks and food are very overpriced. The breakfast was excellent - a good range of western, asian and other tastes, all nicely presented. Do not bother going to the Gym or the pool - both run down. I would not reccomend the spa either.

We spent 4 nights at the Rex and loved it. The location was excellent, and the moment we stepped in the door the service was impeccable. We had a room with verandah and it was slightly noisy but you had to expect that in the city. The food was good, breakfast buffet amazing and staff very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The Rex Hotel wasn't of a standard...
The Rex Hotel wasn't of a standard befitting a four star hotel and we didn't feel our stay at The Rex contributed to an otherwise memorable second visit to Vietnam. The positive aspect of staying at this hotel is it's location but there are many hotels within District 1 having the same advantage of location. We stayed in a suite room and observed the following, * the remote light control didn't work * the carpet was in poor condition with wear and tear very evident * the mini bar only contained 2 cans of 7UP and 2 cans of beer * the bathroom was of poor quality with no fan, the toilet continually ran upon flushing, the bath plug had to be removed as it couldn't be raised via the conventional method, the shower rose couldn't be adjusted and there was mould on the walls There was a persistant musty odour in the hallways and lifts, the food and beverage prices are very expensive relative to the standard of service and the hotel in general, and the business centre is substandard for those inclined to use it. Overall, we wouldn't choose to stay at the Rex Hotel if we were to visit Vietnam again as there are better quality 3 and 4 star hotels within District 1 providing better value for money.

Our stay at the Rex was OK,...
Our stay at the Rex was OK, after recovering from the fact that half the hotel has been demolished, (which just happened to be the view out of the window). Pool area was in state of demolition, however the rooftop bar made up for this. Water pressure in bathroom was non-existent, therefore very difficult to have a hot shower. To be fair, the price paid in hotels current state was quite high.

A splendid old hotel in a good location. The hotel is in the process of being upgraded. The room was huge although it was difficult to find our way around the hotel as there are 2 wings. The pool area is very poor and needs improving but the roof garden/bar was lovely. Great value - would be happy to stay there again.
