The Internet service is rather expensive (especially so since the conenction was quite slow). The Continental hotel has a display in the lobby to advertise the availability of some old pictures (post-card size) of the hotel, but the hotel did not have any (only one photo of a very large size was available). The breakfast service is O.K. It could be better. Otherwise, the hotel stay was pretty pleasant.

I found the Continental Hotel in Saigon...

I found the Continental Hotel in Saigon to be fabulous--the staff were very gracious and helpful, the rooms clean with attention paid to every detail including fresh fruit and flowers--an oasis in the swelter and noise of Saigon in the summertime.

The Continental hotel is great, great location,...

The Continental hotel is great, great location, we scored an upgrade to a suite on the first night, enjoyed it so much we stayed 4 more nights - price very negotiable, great value compared to similar price we paid in Hanoi. had a great room then right on the corner of Dong Khoi street - bit noisy but it always quietens around midnight, got to hang over the balcony and watch the procesion go past on Buddha's birthday, as well as the daily/nightly motorbike procession. Would definitely stay there again if I returned to Saigon, if only there was a swimming pool.....but the aircon was great!

We stayed here on our last day...

We stayed here on our last day of 3 wonderful weeks in Vietnam. April 10th there was a marathon starting and ending at Hotel Continential. Ever since I was the movie The Quiet American, I wanted to visit this hotel. Little did I know I would have a chance. The hotel has a romantic, days gone bye, British, flare to it. The rooms are massive and the attention to architectural detail from the bedroom wood work to the inswing French doors on patio. You could call it 3 rooms in One. Everything from checking in to the morning we left was perfect. The morning breakfast on Sunday was a buffet that makes your eyes water. Every type of food, fruit and drinks. We loved the coffee in Vietnam. Dinner, try to get a seat facing the busy square across from the Opera House. I can't say enough about this Hotel. One day is not enough, I will be back.

If you want to stay at the...

If you want to stay at the Continental for its history, do it - but don't do it because you're looking for a good deal... we stayed there for one night, and were rather disappointed. It did feel a bit like staying in a hotel at the turn of the last century, but wemore like staying in a state-run hotel. Rooms are big and clean though a bit run-down, service is as expected, and the breakfast is great. When we returned to Saigon a few weeks later, we stayed at the Honghoa Hotel in the backpackers quarter, and for a third of the price we good superb service, clean rooms in a good location that were admittingly much smaller though still big enough. If you are have moneyy to spend, do it, but I'd advise doing it at the Continental - if you are merely looking for clean rooms and good service, you should really check out some of the hotels that offer rooms for 10-20 US$ - even though they are cheap, they offer excatly that.
