A disappointing return visit.
Having stayed at this hotel 4 years ago with my husband (who has since died) and loving it I was looking forward to returning with my daughter and reliving that happy time. what a disappointment. I made a booking for four nights in a classic room on a high floor with a river view and twin beds. What I got was a small room with no bath, although it did have a river view. I asked to be changed but was told by rather unhelpful staff that there was nothing available until 7pm the next night. This was inconvenient as we were unable to unpack and had to forgo a dinner invitation the next night to move rooms. The new room was still not the same quality that I had booked but did have a bath and a sort of view of the river. I feel they put us in a lesser quality of room because of the special price being paid through booking with Asia Rooms.
Instead of two 500ml bottles of free water we received only 250ml ones and they were not replaced in the evening if we needed more. The breakfasts that used to be quite wonderful were just average, it was also difficult to get our tea and coffee refilled.
We spoke to some other guests who had just checked in and had the same experience as us and they had booked for 14 nights and the hotel was quibbling over giving them a welcome drink. They were in the room we had our first night and were very unhappy.
I wondered if the hotel was under either new managment or new ownership. It certainly did not seem to put it's guest's satisfaction before it's profits. However the ambience it still there. So if you are staying there get your water from the lady outside Jaspers Rest. just up the road from the hotel and she also does laundry very well at a very reasonable price. She is not usually there until about 2pm each day.
