Somerset Chancellor Court, Ho Chi Minh City  

This is my family first trip to Ho Chi Minh and we did not know what to expect as such I booked Somerset Chancellor Court as it is rated as a 5 stars serviced apartment and it has a swimming pool. In the worst case scenario, at least my 4 children would be able to enjoy the facilities in the hotel. Well, Somerset did live up to its reputation. The apartment was spacious, clean and provides almost everything my wife needs i.e. washing machine, washing powder, microwave, refrigerator, plates, 2 TV with many choice of programs for children et cetera. My children ages 2 to 12 loved the swimming pool. The only disappointment is it does not have a children swimming pool. The staff is friendly, helpful & informative. For me, the best part was the breakfast, as we are treated/complimented to the Highlands Coffee for buffet breakfast. The coffee was 5 stars. The first day, I had filtered coffee (local coffee) but it was too strong. The second and third days, I had 2 cups of coffee lattee each day. I loved it. The children loved the vinamilk yogurt & chocolate drinks. The location was excellent too. On our first day, we walked to Ben Thanh Market from the hotel passing thru the French Embassy & HCM Monument which took us about 30 minutes. Well, I would not recommend that as crossing the roads is a major task (almost impossible) as there are so many motorbikes and that the zebra crossings is almost useless. "Be Moses" becomes our motto. All you need to do is just walk at the zebra crossing area and the motorbikes/cars will automatically avoid you. Just be careful though. Anyway, the hotel is also within walking distance to the War Remnant Museum/Independence Palace, about 20 minutes walking. There is spring rolls restaurant located at the right hand side of the hotel, about 30-40 meters, very good. You can have "pho" too at a few local shops either at the front or side of the hotel.Overall, I would highly recommend Somerset Chancellor Court.
