Old, noisy but authentic
The room i stayed in on the first floor and faced the main street so it was very noisy. There was a constant flow of noisy traffic and tooting throughout the day. Also, I could hear people walking up the stairs and other talking in the lobby. I find it very hard to relax and sleep in. The bathroom stunk of sewage and after i made a complaint, the manager lit a candle to mask the smell. The hotel was decorated traditionally in a Chinese style and the facade of the building looked like it came out of a movie. It is conveniently located in the old town so you could easily get around and explore Hoi An.

This is an old trading house with...
This is an old trading house with only 6 rooms, so if you are wanting an authentic experience of vietnam this is it, beautiful old furniture, it is really charming, the staff are so friendly and took such amazing care of us, it was right in the middle of the town so there are no cars allowed into the area only bikes, so make sure you arrange the hotel car to collect you at the airport, but do not fear, they will have someone there to meet the car when you arrive to bring the luggage to the hotel. The breakfast is really basic, but there are so many great places to eat in Hoi an. There is a little old lady who has to be about 70yrs old who is there everyday and cleans your room beautifully. The concierge arranged so many things for us that were great, the tailor, shoemaker and cooking school, trip to My Son as well. Oh and as there are 4 hotels in the chain you can use the facilities at the other hotels too including the resort on the river. Highly recommended.

What an enchanting hotel. All mahogany,...
What an enchanting hotel. All mahogany, HUGE room w/ a free computer! We felt like royals! This is a quaint hotel in the middle of old town Hoi An, within walking distance to anything & everything. The service was certainly personal as there are only 6 (?) rooms. Breakfast was a lovely buffet, and if you wanted more/or something different- you could request whatever you wanted and the staff would go next door to the Vinh Hung Restuarant and magically produce it! The hotel is truely magical in the evening, when the large chinese lanterns are lit, everyone was stopping by to take photos! It can be a romantic hideaway - great "mandarin" style bed..and huge marble bath! Or, a great place for a family! We loved being in the middle of all the action of the old town, yet only a few steps to our quiet oasis. Staff was helpful in arranging other tours and making great suggestions for dinner/tailors/jewerly stores, etc. We liked this some much that we stayed longer than planned! Hoi An and the Vinh Hung 1 Hotel were the highlight of our tour through Vietnam!

Great family-run hotel in the centre of...
Great family-run hotel in the centre of Hoi An. It felt more like a B&B in chinese style rather than a bland hotel room. Very friendly reception staff and there are several Vinh Hung hotels so there is access to other facilities (eg pool) not at the hotel itself. Pretty decent breakfast. We were staying for our honeymoon and everyone was very sweet - we even got the personal touch of 'happy honeymoon' roses on arrival. We would definitely recommend staying in the centre of Hoi An (nothing beats a midday siesta!) rather than having to bike or taxi in from the beach resort area. However, as cars are not allowed in the centre of Hoi An, work out with your taxi driver or the hotel beforehand how to get your bags to the hotel but it's a short scooter drive from the traffic area. Also, we missed it but every full moon all the town's lights are extinguished and lanterns are lit instead. We think it would be worth it if you can time your trip accordingly. Only warning is that the road from Da Nang airport is in need of repair. We can definitely recommend taking the hotel's taxi service, you don't want to do the 45 min trip in a dodgy taxi that smells of petrol fumes like we did! Our final suggestion is to hunt down the expat Aussies living there (there are a couple) for dining and tourist recommendations - well worth it. Keep an eye out for the cafe / restaurant with the aussie flag.

My wife and I split our stay...
My wife and I split our stay in Hoi An (ie. 1 night in the old city and 2 nights at a beach resort). We chose the "Michael Caine room" at the Vinh Hung I for our old city stay. We were not disappointed and recommend the Michael Caine room for younger adventure travellers and romantics, but, for only short stays. The cosy ambience of the chinese style room and the red lanterns outside created a very romantic setting in the evening. The dark interior of the Michael Caine room would probably be quite depressing for longer stays we think. We do not recommend for seniors or families because of the steep climb up the steps to the Michael Caine room. Breakfast was rather ordinary. Bathroom leaked abit and designed for short people, but, we took account of the building's age. Lucky my wife and I are short so it didn't bother us too much. The location is superb, it's right in the heart of the old city. The hotel staff were genuinely friendly, responsive and helpful, and so this made up for any shortcomings mentioned. Yes, we would return for another short stay when visiting Hoi An.

We stayed in one of the new...
We stayed in one of the new but old-looking rooms, with the dark paneling, and at first we didn't think we would like it. But then after the first day, we decided it was perfect for the area. The location was wonderful, and there are lots of great restaurants nearby.... perfect for walking around in the Old Town. Since there is no vehicle traffic on the street where the hotel is located, we had to walk about two blocks to get there. But the hotel sent someone to meet us and carry our bags. We definitely would stay there again!

We passed a special night in the Michael Caine room full of antiques. The bathroom was small and dingy but the room was great. Front desk was very helpful in overcoming an initial booking misunderstanding. Breakfasts were fine and position is great for exploring the town. Stairs up to the two special rooms were very steep.

Stayed in the superb room but bathroom really small. If you want to stay in a typical chinese merchants house then this is the place but very steep stairs to reach room and also authentic interior is very dark and tends to make the rooms look a little dingy.

This hotel is small, sweet and idyllic,...
This hotel is small, sweet and idyllic, in the best location in hoi an. The staff are lovely and helpful. NB the swimming pool is not located on the premises. But you have full access to the pool, which is located in the second hotel, not far - a quick walk. The only thing to note, the rooms are a bit cramped if you were intending to spend a long time in them during the day, but in Hoi An, who would?
