Hotel Review posted by Norah Fahan, United States in July 2004

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our week at Sonaisali in January 2004.
Staff were delightful, friendly and made our stay a real pleasure. We received an upgrade to a beachfront executive bure which included a 12 by 18 foot private deck complete with spa / hot tub right on the beach.
The view was fantastic and the resort featured a terrific pool on the ocean's edge. Access to the mainland was easy with free water taxis always available. Imaam's taxi was always available to chauffeur us around the main island and the rates were very reasonable. Treat yourself to a Golden King pineapple, you won't be disappointed.
Sonaisali's restaurant was average and the only drawback to an otherwise five star resort. Highly recommended!

| "This resort is not as bad as some people makeout. Great for the buffe breakfast was great with fresh bread made that morning, lunch was pretty good to but dinner was average, they had some good meals but some of them where a bit bellow par for a higher classed resort and at times, took a while to be served. I don't recomend this place for young party goers coz the night life sucks but is perfect for families as it has a great kids club much better than some other ones that i have seen, ther are allot of primary school aged kids. The water sports and the resorts activities are not very well prepered and are at times even disorganised, but i think this is due to the layed back fiji atmosphere. Also the horsde riding is very poor as it is not horse riding it is 'bony pony riding' i feel very sorry for these animals as they have to carry dat men on teir back and are all skin and bones.
The good thing about the activitesd is they have allot of friendly staff, infact all there staff where great! My fave staffmember was Cali, always very polite and entertaining. As for what i have heard about cockroches i have not seen any! The room where convieniently locate right on the beach and not a long wal from the hum of action, it was also not built up and crowded like alot of resorts these days. I would recoment this resort to anyone interested in a fun active, or relaxing holiday with the family." |

| "We were married at Sonaisali 6 years ago and it was so wonderful we decided to go back and renew our wedding vows. We phoned and asked if this was possible but they didn't do that but would arrange it for us. I think sensing a money making opportunity, it was on the brochure by the time we got there.
We went back because it was so wonderful the first time, Fijian warriors, flower girls and we were made feel so special. The staff, all Fijian, were absolutely wonderful. Very people oriented and very caring. Not this time. Most of the staff are now Indian, so much cheaper than Fijians. Fijian warriors were teenagers who did nothing but giggle through the whole experience, also the way to the ceremony was totally changed, don't wear sandals, I had to take mine off, climbing over rocks in a wedding dress doesn't work!!!!
After that disaster, the food was not good at all. We booked into fine dining, but the least said about that the better. Even the events manager ordered our lobster the night before, but surprise, surprise, no lobster, at least until we walked out, then they managed to "find" one. While they were apologising, which seems to be the norm, we sat in the main lounge and was shocked to see MASSIVE cockroaches, at least 8 or 10, climbing up the walls while the staff ignored them. They obviously were used to them.
The next day we had a meeting with all the head staff and all they wanted to do was make our "last 2 days" as wonderful as could be. I personally couldn't think about eating there again, or even sleeping there, where do the cockroaches go when the lights are out? We left and went elsewhere but had to pay for that upfront as Sonaisali wouldn't refund our lost days. It is awful that they, like us, came all the way from Scotland to what we thought was a paradise but had changed so much. " |

| "Stayed here May 2004, Executive Beachfront Burre with wonderful views. The Sonaisali Island resort however was dissapointing because the food was the worst and I was not the only guest complaining of this. We went on the resorts catamaran for a day trip and whilst haveing lunch everyone onboard commented that the lunch was better than anything they had eaten at the resort . We tried our hardest not to eat in this resort, which wasn't easy as it was a fair distance from town. None of the jet skis (8) worked and this was one of the reasons booking here. The pool was very beautiful but rough on the bottom causing many scapes. I don't normally complain like this but after paying a higher end price, this resort was a big let down." |
