| "I have spent 8 weeks over 5 stays at the Wharney in 2008. I work in Central and have many friends living around Wanchai, so the location is perfect for me.
The Wharney has two types of rooms/floors - normal and executive. The executive floor rooms are the same size (good) but have recently been refurbished. I paid a lower price (circa HK$1000 per night) for the normal room. Executive rooms may cost HK$500 more per night.
The normal rooms are a bit aged, especially the bathroom but are clean and tidy. Room includes a minibar, snacks, tea-coffee facilities and safe. The TV has a decent selection of international channels + pay per view movies. Wireless internet costs HK$120 for 24hrs. There is a pool, jacuzzi and fitness centre in a separate building - you need a special key from reception to access it.
Tip - there are a few hole-in-the-wall laundry shops nearby. You can get a full load washed and dried in 2 hours for HK$36 which is about the cost of having a pair of jeans washed at the hotel. Use the hotel for dry-cleaning though as it's same-day and the other places all take 4 days.
Minor complaints are that the elevators are small, easy to overload and often busy. And check-in/check-out often takes long time.
The staff are friendly (in an efficient way) and they speak English.
The Wharney is in the heart of Wanchai's bar area. A few of these are go-go type bars but most are UK type pubs offering great food and free sport on large screens. A couple of places have pool tables and dart boards. There are also many restaurants within 100 meters.
