Kaday Aung Hotel
When we read the reviews, we thought forget this, but as we were desperate we decided to give this hotel a go - and I am glad we did. We travel a lot (usually staying in 5 star) hotels, so this booking was made with great trepidation.. We arrived late afternnon from Lake Inlay and found that our booking was not on file (but when we logged into their internet, we found our and seven other bookings), which sorted that minor problem - we then asked the duty Manager to organise an air-con car for us for the following day - which he did, pleasantly and promptly ( again contrary to reviews), before having our bags taken to the room. The room was clean, tidy (with no smells of sewarage or signs of bugs), the beds were firm, but comfortable and bathroom clean ( a bit dated - thats all!). We then had dinner in the Restaurant - the food was average and a bit overpriced, but was edible and the waitresses were pleasant. Breakfast was basic but filling.
We did not find the staff, rude, unapproachable nor did they give us the impression that we were an inconvenience. The service they gave us was pleasant and courteous and they delivered on their promises when made.
In short you get what you pay for - if you expect 5 star plus accomodation, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a roof over your head and a base from which to see Bagan this is a good basic hotel, with pleasant local staff an we would happily stay there again.
