Avoid superior rooms
I had initially booked the superior rooms online, and once I saw how outdated, moldy and dirty they were (#3161), I immediately requested an upgrade to the premier chalet on land (#1250). The cost was double the price, but it was definitely worth it for my partner and I to enjoy langkawi. The view was amazing and the room quality was like a whole new world. The spa bath is positioned well so I could enjoy the tv as well as the sea view. The buggies that drive you to and from the main areas are like mini roller coasters, and the activities desk always has something on to fulfill anyones needs. The pool is lovely and clean, the sunken pool bar is pretty cool. Food wise, its not cheap so we often went to the nearby oriental village (free buggy there, 5 min walk back) for the true local foods, about $1aud a meal! Don't bother with cenang, its dirty and Phuket style.. If u come to langkawi, u should stay in a resort because their private beaches and peacefulness is what you're after!
Basically, avoid superior rooms. Berjaya are upgrading the rainforest superior rooms so they might be better, but if u can avoid staying in the forest areas, lots of bugs and monkeys creeping about, sea views are a must. Also, I suggest u request to see which rooms are available, as every single chalet/room has different views and locations to busy areas/roads. Some are standalone rooms, some are built next door to another,or even in a block of 4. So if u want privacy, specify it as the walls aren't very thin. The premier chalets on water are way too overpriced, if ur lucky and can get a premier chalet on land like mine (1250, or any near there), the view is pretty much the same for half the price. Same room configuration, only diff is a newer tv.
Oh and double check the sheets before u hop into bed, we found fresh period blood stains in our first room. Gross! I've got pics to prove it! The staff seemed indifferent to it when i complained, they simply sent someone over to replace sheets.
