We selected this hotel for our (g couple) 6 days stay in Penang from the asiarooms website. We think that this hotel stands out in many ways and is yet affordable. The location is perfect for trips out of George Town as well as strolls to several authentic sections nearby. The staff is very friendly. Downside was the massage that we took on the 3rd floor. That appeared to be something different from a proper massage where the Chinese ladies had something else in mind... Overall we were very happy with our choice of hotel.

This hotel is sadly let down by its room size and facilities in the room, especially in the bathroom. It would be nice just as a place to sleep over, not really ideal for honeymoon or holiday. On the plus side, breakfast has many varieties and the location is perfect.

The location of the hotel is very good, all heritage buildings and open air street food is in walking distance.
The facility of the hotel is just ok. My room is at the end of the corridor, it is very small and not very clean.
There is no internet inside room. There is no swimming pool in hotel.
We move to Royal hotel next day due to cititel is fully booked, but then we found Royal hotel is cheaper and better, of course have free internet in room and also swimming pool.

Good hotel, excellent breakfast, very good location to the city centre + other food cuisines nearby.
I would recommend it.
The only negative aspect was that our room was not ready though we had pre-biiked it in advance. We were made to wait for a couple of hours while the room was being cleaned out & prepared for us.

Checked in at 3.30pm but had to wait for an hour for my room to be ready.They were heavily booked at the time. My request for a room on a high level was supplied.
On a minor note, it would be nice if the lobby shop sold phone cards.
More non-smoking floors would be an asset.
Position of the hotel is excellent and all staff were found to be very professional and polite.

Although we were there for just one nite. We were welcome with a super duper clean room with soft fluffy clean bed. Room has a warm emience, that feels like home. Just a door step away is the famous chicken rice and char kway tiao, and fried prawn fritters !! Will definately come back to this hotel if i'm there again.

Cititel provides good value accommodation, rooms are clean and comfortable although may be a bit cramped for a couple.
I would suggest the hotel provides more non-smoking floors.
While the hotel promotes itself to the business traveller, some basic items with the room such as a general news service and an alarm clock are curious omissions. Internet provision could also be better.
Best feature of Cititel is its central location in downtown Penang close to the world heritage area.
Worst thing about Cititel is the breakfast - the range and quality should be better for a 4 star hotel. Given the downtown location a better option is to eat outside - the food is MUCH better.

We booked a superior room and after checking in we found the hotel was renovating one of the 2 floors of superior rooms. After much noise , we spoke to reception and were moved to a corner room on a lower floor away from the noise. The breakfast has everything anyone could want. The hotel position is excellent and with the renewed free town shuttle bus service having a stop across the road makes getting around easy.
