Staffs need more training, specially operators over the telephone. The experience staffs are those in the senior positions (tie &jackets brigade). The rest in uniforms need more training.

We reached there 2pm but the rooms only ready at 3.30pm. no welcome drink serve! Now most of the hotels do provide free wifi to all the hotel rooms but this hotel you need to pay for it. From car park you need to walk down to lobby thru staircase, not friendly to the senior citizen.
The washroom of the room also not up to the standard, faced some problem with the shower head and wc, no hand tower, no toothbrush and toothpaste provided, telephone sometimes not working. In short, dont stay in this hotel until they refurbish it.

Only for Budget Travellers
Sunway Georgetown Hotel is not a business friendly hotel. It is old, out-dated & not very clean.
There are no internet connectivity via LAN nor WiFi. Breakfast sucks BIG-TIME! So it's a definite NO-NO for any of my future business trips.
But for the budget conscious traveler, then perhaps it will fit their needs just nicely.
The only thing to note is that the toilet is not very clean & smells funky!

Pig out in Penang !
The Sunway is an old school ,recently refurbed hotel ,well located close to lots of great food places and within walking distance to shopping malls and the famous Penang Rd . The Komtar bus depot is a 5-10 min walk away . There are heaps of hawker food stalls that set up daily in the late afternoon just a stones thow from the hotel and they are open til late, buzzing with mainly locals ,and a few tourist food junkies.
Checking in to the Sunway was painfully slow , after which we were given a smoking room (we booked non smoking). This was soon sorted but only after vigoursly complaining to front desk. Next room was clean and fresh. Stayed 4 nights , service was good , breakfast a bit average, as was the small pool.
Overall , enjoyed our stay and would stay again. The Hotel is an older style but does have some charm , and its location is great.
A must try is the Fried Koay Teow at Kafe Heng Huat on Lorong Selamet, just a few streets from the hotel, simply the best noodles with prawns in town!

4 Star???
This hotel would not qualify for 4 star to me!! Location is misleading as its on the very outskirts of Georgetown not central or walking distance to any sights. Its a very old hotel. The rooms would have been nice 10 years ago. Alot of things need upgrading. My family had 2 rooms on the same floor and the bathrooms are old, the carpets are stained and very worn. Does not look like the photos at all. The only good thing is breakfast is ok, service is friendly and not expensive and in the evening along the street outside is a bustling local eating area with lots of cheap local food.

The hotel is nicely located. At the night, the street below transform into a food paradise where it is vital to me as I am travelling with old folks and the last thing I want is to walk a far distance away for our meals. Hence, the location of this hotel scored a "9/10" from me.
However, the hotel policy - "No outside food allowed" is a huge disappointment and unacceptable. In my life of travelling and various hotels that I stayed (including 5 stars), this is the first time I was being stopped to bring food into my hotel room.
What's the point of promoting your hotel is near to food paradise, but not allowing guests to bring food into the rooms? And, not to mention that food served by the hotel cafe is not up to standard at all (my rooms come with free buffet breakfast - it is horrible).
Another huge disappointment is the lack of safebox in the room. With the price I paid for and for a 4 stars hotel, I thought a safe deposit is a minimum criteria? Another minus point. Otherwise, room is clean & spacious, except one of the room's shower head & toilet flush are faulty.
This hotel is ideally located. I would love to stay in this hotel. But unless the management take away "no food" policy, I will not even consider.

Old hotel showing its age
The lobby belies the tired and old nature of the hotel rooms. The hotel room door are bleached an unappealing brown, both the bedsheets and towels are stained horribly.
Breakfast in the morning is bad, with slow refilling of emptied platters and you have to pay for the eggs!
Definitely will not be staying at this hotel again
