We only stayed one night. Staff at reception were very nice. Room was fine. Pool area was good. Had to get a taxi into town, too far to walk. Rude man serving food in the restaurant by the pool however, the food was pretty good.
comfortable and clean, though there were quite a few ants... good place to be based, away from the town centre, yet not too far away. Rooms need refurbishing though as the shower sliding doors were falling off! Carpet quite worn... but on the whole, good value for money, friendly staff, especially Rosalind of the tour desk--was very helpful...
Our second return stay to this hotel. As before, reception staff was a little snobby and rude. Located close to the Sandakan City but a little bit of a hike across town to Sepilok, the Crocodile Farm and other tourist attractions such as the Australian War Memorial (10kms or so).
Sabah Hotel is the place to stay if you wish to experience a resort style living during your stay in Sandakan. The room was spacious with plenty of room in the bathroom. The decor is slightly old but expected for an older hotel. The swimming pool was excellent and clean. The hotel boasts of everything that comes with other hotels but also includes the Amadeus Bar as well a Encore Karaoke. The buffet breakfast was sufficient and included a variety of both Western and Asian cuisine. The only downfall is that we found the reception staff slightly snobby and rude. Watch and keep track of your mini bar consumption as we had an altercation with housekeeping miscommunicating and counting the consumed beverages incorrectly.
Only two small remarks: we needed to wait for 1h30 to get our rooms (at 18h00) in the evening... no amenities and not enough towels.
Overall, very good hotel that we can recommand.
