The hotel has two parts, Shangri-La main wing and the Executive Krungthep Wing. I use the Shangri-La Krungthep Wing (Now Deluxe Rooms on Asia Rooms) as it is exceptional value for the quality with many free extra benefits. Like food and non alcohol free all day, plus alcohol early evening. Separate pool etc. Stay here every time in Bangkok. This hotel can not be faulted and I highly recommend it. Next to BTS Sky Train station and River boat pier. Dont use rip off taxis outside, flag down a metered taxi with the red light left side windscreen.

Service is very good. The new swimming pool is well designed, but lacking of Jacuzzi. The new sunbeds are very comfortable for me to enjoy sun bathing. Free internet access is appreciated. I can leisurely use netbook to check email in the pool side. The price for dinner buffet is a bit dear. Anyway, I will re-visit the hotel next time.

In Oct. 2008, for 8 days my wife and I visited the Shangri-La Bangkok. This was our second visit, after a previous 6 day visit in May 2005.
Everything about this Shangri-La is 5-star, from the hotel's ambience, to the beautifully decorated rooms to the very polite, well trained and always helpful staff.
As before, we stayed at the Horizon Club. I believe, that our room category, as booked through AsiaRooms,
did not include a balcony. But the concierge at the
Horizon Club, where we checked in, spend a considerable time at the reservation computer, and finally located for us a corner room with a balcony on the 20th floor.
Every early morning we spend some time on the balcony, watching the fascinating river traffic and the awakening city below.
Several nights we sat by the panorama windows of the Horizon Club Lounge on the 24th floor, enjoying the
amazing sight of nighttime Bangkok.
At night,guests staying at the Horizon Club, are offered free hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and non alcoholic beverages.
Airport pick-up by a hotel driver went smoothly.
Unfortunately the pool at river level and the adjacent restaurant were closed for renovations.
Breakfast, incl. in the room rate, was served buffet-style in the lobby, instead by the river.
The hotel is located right by the Chao Phraya River, and within a short walking distance( most of it through the 2 hotel towers ) to the river ferries, a fast and cheap transportation to many tourist attractions, incl. the Royal Palace, the flower markets, Chinatown and many temples, and a Skytrain station, that offers a convenient connection to the inner city and the subway( minus the mad traffic and non-English speaking taxi drivers ).
A must tour: By bus to the 400 year old ruins of
Ayutthaya, the former capital, and the return by a
beautiful teak boat, operated by the Shangri-La, on the Chao Phraya River. The trip includes a great lunch buffet on the boat.
This is the first time we have used AsiaRooms to book a hotel room. We were impressed by its efficiency, good service and savings offered.
Great, easy-to-use website as well.
