Thoroughly enjoyed the service from the girls at the desk. Found them most helpful. Buffet was great with a wide choice of food.Excellently positioned as a stepping off place for sightseeing. Khoa san road only a hop skip and jump away. Great eating places around the Royal. I would caution people to avoid the taxi guys at the front door. Better to walk into the street and hail your own metered taxi. Much cheaper. I would go here again.

Great location - close to Golden Palace, Chao Praya River, Khaosan Road.
Room is good-sized, though beds are hard. Full breakfast buffet is nice.

Hotel is old but quiet clean.. hotel staff very grumpy and unhelpful,, staff at tour desk conning peolpe all day long...door man not open door and watch people struggle with shopping and things... taxis out side charging 4 time the meter price..

Second time to stay this year.A better room on the first floor with a good bathroom. Breakfast very good.Pool area ok.Good location. But be aware of the taxi service offered from the hotel lobby (A cut price offer of 250b to go to the airport was, it turned out ..250b for each person) Pass on this. If you are on your own take the AE2 bus (150b)from across the road (a very busy junction....allow 15 mins to cross to bus).

My husband and I have stayed at the Royal Hotel , for the passed 20 years, and this was the worst visit we had at this hotel, my husband woke up at 3 am, to find BED BUGS, on him, we went to the front desk, they never even said they were sorry , after my husband showed them the BED BUGS, we had to move our self to another room. We will not be staying at the Royal Hotel , when we return to Bangkok.

The plus for the Royal is it's location close to the Royal Palace and other sights. If you can get a room on the back side it is quiet, the front side has considerable street noise. Rooms are rather plain but adequate. Breakfast selection is good.
Near the backpacker area with restaurants and other amenities but you have to cross a very busy road to get there.
You can take the Airport Express bus AE2 to get there from the airport. Just tell them that you are going to the Royal Hotel and they will drop you off at a bus stop up the street where it is a short walk to the hotel. For the return, the AE2 bus stop is over toward the backpacker area but not too far away if your luggage is not too heavy. At 150 baht much cheaper than the airport taxis.
