I had read the reviews about this hotel before and was a little weary about trying it but decided to anyway and was very glad I did! This was the sixth time I had been to Bangkok so I was familiar with the location--all you have to tell the cab driver is behind the Manhora--they all know where that is.
The hotel is aged a bit and does need some fresh paint and wallpaper, but what can you expect from a place that is around $30.00 USD? The rooms are HUGE. The river view is the best you will get unless you stay in a $200.00+ per night room on the river. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the Pumpkin House has some of the best and fair priced food I have had in Thailand anywhere!
Your options for transportation from the hotel are also good. Cabs and Tuk Tuk's are readily available. The boat pier on the Chao Phraya River is a straight walk about 10 minutes and so also is the BTS Skytrain. I find the walks interesting so I don't mind. If you aren't expecting a perfect place and can deal with a little aged facility, the good points far outweigh the bad!

i'm really not happy with my holiday whent first time stepp in to the hotel, not many taxi n tutut knowing about this hotel, they send me twice to wrong hotel. this hotel not privetcy and clean, many pakistan and bangladesh stay at downt stair. not really safety.

I live in the Bangkok area as a teacher and look for these type of hotels when we need to stay near a conference in 5-start plus hotels along the river. We are familiar with the city so we like the location for what we need AND it is well within our price range! It was a bit hard for the taxi drivers to find. If I was coming from out of town and wanted to be "near the action" and good reasonably priced restautant, it would be great. I liked the fact the room we had had a balcony where the smoker could go and a nice view of that part of the city.

The taxi driver could not find the hotel, asking several people, etc. I walked into the "lobby", which had but one sofa to sit down and bare floor, and it was blazing hot, the staff said "the building air conditioner is broken". we went up the old elevator to the room which was also hot as the sun was blazing right into the room, as the staff turned on the room a/c I saw a huge dead cockroach on its back next to the bed, laying on the very worn and tired carpet, the one good thing was the view from 16 floors up was great.

The size of the room is spacious. Vetilation is also good. The bathroom is nice and clean. However I think that the room need a new coat of paint. In addition the electric socket does not fit my hand phone charger. So, I have to find another electrical outlet/socket.
In terms of location it was strategically located and close to shopping malls, roadside vendors at Silom Road and the Riverside area. Value for money for budget traveller.

Very nice hotel, although little tricky to find it! Some taxi-drivers had difficulties in finding the hotel. Fantastic view over the city, spacious rooms. Breakfast a bit simple, but OK.
Great value for money! I can really recommend the hotel.

Hotel was in a good location not far from shops and restaurants. Room was basic and tired, although it was clean and faily quiet compared to other Hotels in the area. Probably wouldnt stay again unless they had good rates.
