Great clean hotel for on overnight stay. Absolutely nothing to do. I arrived about 23:30 and had to leave hotel again at 5:30am
The hotel picked me up and took me to the airport. No charge. Below I clicked suitable for City Break only because I had to check a box. This room is only good for a very short over night stay

I stayed for two nights with friends in the Tower block. I was weary of the possible noise after reading some of the reviews but I must say that I can find no fault at all with the place and I go away with a very good memory.
Service was great, the place feels like an international hotel, with a very good lobby, a large entrance area, parking and all that.
Location was excellent, room was very good, service was excellent and breakfast was superb.
It's not the Sheraton or the Hilton, but beats any guesthouse by miles, a matter of choice.
I would certainly go back with no reservation, just make sure you don't stay in the old building.

My room had problems with the air...
My room had problems with the air conditioning that made noise and kept me from sleeping. It was repaired, but failed again the next day. The power saver for the room kept turning off the power every ten seconds, which presented a lot of problems. I had to complain to the manager, who eventually had everything fixed.
Other than that, I like the location, the service is good and the value is good.

Room a good size and beds very comfortable. Even though not specified as non smoking the rooms did not smell of smoke. Breakfast very nice buffet. Noise from disco drum beat is loud, but not a problem if you are on a top floor (we were on the 5th floor of the old building and it was not a problem).Hotel restaurant on top floor under utilized and expensive. Service fancy but slow. No receipt given for meal.
Overall a good value and we would stay there again.

I've stayed at the Porn Ping Tower...
I've stayed at the Porn Ping Tower many times over more than a decade. It's fine for what it is. It has no pretensions; it never changes from one year to the next. Its decor, occasionally refreshed, remains the same as do many of the staff, the processes they use, the food at breakfast, and the services and amenities they supply.
It is though excellent value with large clean rooms, in the centre of the Night Market area of Chiang Mai. It has good views towards the mountain Doi Suthep or over the river and I have rarely been disturbed by rowdy or inconsiderate guests (although I wish I could say the same about the neighbours' dogs which can bark incessantly morning and night, the muezzin calling people to prayer from the nearby mosque, or the pigeons which insist on cooing on the balconies from first light). It has a lot of undemanding Thai and other Asian guests and I suspect that will mean that little, including its tariffs, is going to change much in the near future.
So it's a take it or leave it hotel. It is what it is. If there are aspects which irritate beyond endurance, go elsewhere because they're not going to change. If you're reasonably laid back and not inclined to get on your high horse about little inadequacies here and there, you want a good deal and to be centrally located in a large room, this is probably for you.

I have stayed at the pornping in January 2009 the rooms were ok for the price. However better cleaning is needed. The location is great but the service is realy bad. It is sad because service is the one thing a hotel can do to standout from other hotels around the area (and there are many) without increasing cost to the management.Really desapointed.
