We stayed at Dusit Thani Resort for 5 nights after staying 6 nights at Club Andaman in Patong. Our first impressions were excellent, this resort is very grand. We were a little disappointed with the room because all though it was in the new section and beautiful, we expected to be in a room like the picture shown on the website, on ground level (ocean front delux), not level 3 as this would have made access easier having a 3 year old with us. When asked, only club rooms are on ground level and would have cost another $600 at a discounted rate! The Laguna group have successfully made thier own mini town which everything is extremely overpriced and left us feeling isolated. We were there during low season so all of the beach shacks where completely abandoned, therefor unless you jumped in a taxi it left only the resort restaurants. We did get given some maps when we checked in, but the maps only showed there own resorts. It was only until the last day that we went for a long walk and found the locals.
We could take the free shuttle or ferry to any of the 5 sister resorts for free and dine but if you want to use the pools you have to pay for a day pass. The breakfast was ordinary especially compared to Club Andaman. Probably the biggest complaint would be the Laguna staff at Canal Village pouncing on us and wasting precious time to sell us the eqivalent to Time Share. This did leave a bitter taste in both of our mouths. Other than that the Kids Club was fantastic and enjoyed by master 3, it's located on a gorgeous part of Phuket, the staff were friendly and helpful and we had a blast spending too much money at the Cassaurina Bar by the beach. Overall the service was great, the resort pretty but took away the feeling of where we where.
