This review contains some general and relevant...
This review contains some general and relevant comments the hotel cannot be considered responsible for. But some of them are within the control of the hotel.
During our three week vacation we had visited four hotels in four different regions of Thailand. This hotel was the last one.
Of the hotels we had visited, this one had the best room, the best beds, the very best food and was by a significant margin the most expensive.
The front pool villa is a stunner. It is a fantastic place to stay. The hotel is in its private bay, small units conceiled in the vegetation. Absolutely remote, which is not necessarily always an advantage, but it is by all means exclusive.
However, this set-up is hard to maintain and the hotel clearly suffers from a lack of maintenance. Though the huge staff is working hard to get everything done. It is a bit strange that in such an expensive place you need to call upon maintenance twice to get the flimsy room doors lockable and you loose power one day and one night. The hotel offered a nice compensation, it must be said. And plans are in place to replace the doors with good german quality stuff. So they are working the issues.
It is also strange that you find out after one week that you can get internet in your room at no charge, but you didn't because much of the staff doesn't understand english very well. At these room prices, not having internet is really strange. Keep asking, it can be done.
We were there during the rain season. I will never do this again. This location suffers a lot from the seasonal winds. Much more than the rest of Thailand that is quite enjoyable during the rain season. Lots of rain, lots of wind and you cannot swim in the sea because too unsafe. An important show stopper at that place, it changes your experience significantly.
Another show stopper is the Phuket transport maffia. You can read about it elsewhere, but it makes Phuket a very unpleasant place. We have thrown too much money at Phuket after the 2004 tsunami, the maffia is the result. This place is remote. Getting you away from the hotel is a major cost, while elsewhere in Thailand transport is less than a fifth of the prices set by the Phuket Transport maffia, no room for negotiation left out of fear for maffia retaliation. They also pressure and milk the hotels successfully. Phuket no longer deserves tourism. Not much the hotel can do about this, but nevertheless: other places in Thailand are much more enjoyable.
