we booked a deluxe room ,when we arrived were told could have a room with no window or single beds , declined and asked for window requested to fay more ,then shown room in old section we believed we had booked a renovated room with double bed .shown 4 rooms before speaking to Duty Manager, she then looked up AsiaRooms ,saw discrepencies with advertising were then offered premium room having to pay an extra $30 a night.

Noisy and humid rooms
The first room offered was incredible noisy, the second and third room offered had a very bad smell from humidity and even the bed felt humid to lay in.
The room was never cleaned before 3 pm and cleaned poor.
The international food in the restaurant was not good and the service was very slow.
Only the really up to date and big fitness room can be recommended. Also the staff at reception is very friendly and tries to do the best.

Good Choice in Saigon
We stayed in a deluxe room for 4 nights todo sightseeing in and around Saigon, because of the very central location, from where you can see all places by feet. The staff was exceptionally friendly, even when we had to three times changed our excursion schedule. We thought the package a little pricy, but this relates to pretty much everything we payed in Saigon, so it seems a habit in Vietnam to charge a lot compared to Thailand or Philippines. Breakfast buffet was quite ok, the roof top bar is nice. Compared to other hotels in Saigon, the price was competitive.
If you are an early sleeper, you should ask for a garden side room, as the street side is rather noisy til 23:00 hrs. when the band stops playing in the rooftop bar. After 23:00 our room was quiet.

Nice location, no good for little ones
The location is great - walking distance to quite a few sights, a market; a supermarket just across the road. We were travelling with a 1,5-year-old, so booked a family room which was spacious and very convenient. However this hotel is the wrong choice if you are travelling with small children. The kitchen was totally inflexible: you can only order what's on menu, no variations possible for a child ( can you make just a steamed chicken leg/drumstick? - no; can you make this dish not so spicy? - no...), so finding something to eat for our litle one was an everyday problem; the hotel restaurant had very nice, but also very loud live music every night till 11 pm - so getting the child to sleep was a problem, too; lots of steps everywhere, but no ramps - so ended up carrying the child and the stroller a lot! Breakfast unimpressive. Pool nice. Staff friendly and mostly helpful.

I recommend this hotel for those who wish to stay in the heart of Saigon, in a 5-star hotel with a historical charm and yet not willing to pay exorbitant prices of similar class hotels like Sheraton, Carvelle or Park Hyatt. I chose the hotel due to the central location right in the heat of District 1, it is walking distance to most of the business commercial addresses, restaurants and shopping belt. In fact my room window overlooks the Opera house and statue of Uncle Ho. But I understand this is a special rate as it is the low season. But I was truly delighted with my stay as the bedding and room fittings were first rate, at par with what the Sheraton Saigon and the bathroom was luxurious. My overall experience is at par if not better than what I have had at Sheraton or Carvelle. But !!, remember this is only for the new wing which I booked as it was newly renovated over a year ago. I think the old wing may not be anyway near this. So, be careful that you booked only the new wing.
I would stay here again if I need to stay somewhere central in District 1.

Great location, good solid room. Construction was a bit annoying but once it's finished will be fantastic. It's pretty much just a walk from most things. Enjoyed it would recommend it

Noisy Room, Great Staff.
Noise level very high. We heard averything that was going on on the street from 6h15 am to 3h30 am. Non stop!
The hotel employees were great. Especially Tram and Loi at the restaurant. Polite and helpfull staff.

We had a reservation confirmed through AsiaRooms.com...
We had a reservation confirmed through AsiaRooms.com for a Junior Suite Room for 3 nights. I called the hotel quoting our reservation reference 2 days before our arrival and they confirmed our reservation. Upon checking in, the staff at the reception highlighted to us that our reservation was for Junior Suite Room which could only accommodate 1 adult and 1 child (max child age 11) and we actually had 3 adults. I told them that my son-in-law and his wife had always stayed at a Junior Suite room and confirmed that it had more than enough room to accommodate 3 adults but the staff at the reception refused to give us the Junior Suite room highlighting that it was against regulations. Instead she said we would have to an Executive Room (or something to that equivalent) which could accommodate 3 adults and had a king-size bed. To make matters worse, as renovations were still going on at the old wing, she suggested we take the new wing. Our total original confirmation package (taking a Junior Suite room) only amounted to US$336 (including breakfast for 2) but based on the new arrangement, we ended up paying US$534.25 (including breakfast for 3). What a total disappointment it was!! to make matters worse, housekeeping was terrible - the chambermaid always gave us a very glum look and since we had brought our own toiletries, she never topped up the toiletries in our room - instead she cleared out all the extras that were originally given to us on our arrival.
We were totally disappointed with the service at the Rex Hotel especially since it came highly recommended by my son-in-law who always stays there whenever he goes on his business trips to Ho Chi Minh (which happens to be once every month)! I agree that due to regulations, maybe they could not allocate us the Junior Suite Room that we originally booked for but the Executive Room that we had was definitely smaller than the Junior Suite Room!
We loved Ho Chi Minh very much and would definitely visit this beautiful city again but we would never stay at the Rex Hotel again. There were so many other better hotels within the same vicinity and for the price we paid at the Rex Hotel, we would definitely prefer to stay at either Caravelle, Sheraton or even Continental Hotel. I hope the attitude shown to us by the staff at Rex Hotel wasn't because we had not done the reservations directly with Rex Hotel, hence, the different treatment allocated to us as opposed to that offered to my son-in-law who always does a direct booking with the Rex Hotel.
