5/5  Posted by SWilson, United Kingdom in January 2008
"We stayed in Shahpura Bagh for 3 nights in January 2008. This is a truly fantastic place although it is more of a luxury homestay experience than your average hotel stay. The family owners are involved in any activity you choose to do and you eat meals, safari style, with them and other guests at the palace. Evening meals start, in the winter, with drinks around a bonfire before you tuck into a sumptuous meal in the grand dining room. The palace is in the town of Shahpura but its extensive grounds allow for privacy and peace from the bustle of the town. The rooms, either in the palace itself or in the converted summer house, are absolutely huge and beautifully decorated. All bathrooms have claw foot tubs. The family lay on boat rides on their lakes and safaris to local villages, farms and their fort as activities, all of which are really great experiences. Shahpura itself contains some interesting temples and palaces. Many guests use Shahpura Bagh as a one night stopover but that seems to be a pity as it is well worth staying at least two nights to get a better idea of the surrounding area and to spend time with the family. We can’t recommend this place enough. "
