Set in three acres of paddy filelds, gardens and forest with wonderful views of the Himalayan mountains bordering Tibet, Bamboo Retreat is a quiet and interesting mountain retreat to base yourself during your visit to Sikkim.The star of the show is a wonderfully authentic top floor meditation room, complete with traditional Buddhist altar and glass windows looking out to mountains. A perfect place for your own yoga or meditation practice, or an introduction to meditation can be arranged. There’s also a special room for herbal baths – soak in one infused with cytronella-grass from the garden, lit by candle light and with a relaxing herbal tea. Workshops available on request include basket weaving, cooking and Tibetan mandala painting with a Thangka Master. Mountainbikes are for rent at the retreat and you can plan some inspirational treks or mountain bike rides in the surrounding area. Visits to local Buddhist monasteries Rumtek and Ranka / Lingdum with expert guides can be arranged. And there’s a library with a good selection of books and videos on the Himalayas.
