I stayed 6 weeks in india and I must say that the Ummeid was the most expensive and yet the most disappointing experience.
The place is located 9 km out of Jodhpur. Although the huge lobby is promising, it is the only thing that kept ts promises: the room are ok but nothing special, the food is very expensive and the worst i had in india (if you expect to eat indian food in india and not pasta and salad vbuffet) , but above all, the service was sloppy and some of the employees were almost rude (it took us 1 hours to get a coke by the pool, despite several reminders to the waiter who just laughed when we asked for one). The hotel is huge (and a target destination for huge tourist cars) but there are only 4 sunchairs around the swimming pool which is used minaly by...pigeons....
Complaints were addressed to the manages (who finally agreed to meet us after 4 requests, and frankly, he did not seem to be preoccupied at all). A no go

| "We had a two night stay in Jodhpur and in my opinion it is the best place to visit in Rajasthan!! The hotel on the other hand was an absolute joke in terms of service, staff attitude & cost of dining/in room dining not to mention it's distance from town. You would think that the hotel being somewhat isolated from the township would pose obvious added costs & inconvenience to guests and that a so called 'service orientated 5 star hotel' would be aware and make travel hassle free and cheap; think again as you as a guest will more or less have to pay a ransom to go anywhere. I organised a driver for the day that I privately negotiated outside the hotel grounds after being quoted over inflated fares by hotel staff. My tour was for 10am and it didn’t show up. I then made private arrangements a second time and by 12pm it was evident that it was not going to happen so as a last resort I decided what vital organ I was prepared to sell and approached the front desk and explained the situation and within 15 mins my hotel approved driver was available. A situation had transpired where I had misunderstood the quoted price for the tour as I sought confirmation from the driver on the tour cost. Well...the front desk staff came out to the car park and to my complete surprise had a go at me for the misunderstanding as I was not prepared to pay the correct price. He then demanded that I compensate the driver for coming out and he stormed inside after I had refused to do so. In my opinion the hotel staff either officially or unofficially get a personal or hotel commission for all out going transportation and that was why my privately organised tours never showed up however I cannot substantiate that in any way. Fortunately Jodhpur is such a fantastic place that I could not care less about the incidents at this hotel; I just would never set foot in that place again and thought it fair to post my comments allot of Asia Rooms reviews have came in handy for me. Don't misunderstand me, i'm not a budget traveler that splashed out in a five star hotel and was shocked with the costs, I just found this place pathetic and got far better accommodation and service in 3 star hotels in India. | "Hotel was simply beautiful and a lovely break from the hustle and bustle of India. I would highly recommend it to folks who aren't on a budget. Superb service. It is out of town though, but the peace and quite are well worth the trip into town. Jodhpur was our favorite city in Radasthan -- we loved it and the people were friendly. It really is another world!!!! " |
