4/5  Posted by MS. BROOKS, Cheryl, Australia in December 2006
"The Grand Hyatt is a very large, modern hotel, beautifully appointed with all the expected luxury facilities of an international 5 star hotel, including quite a decent shopping mall. Its location is good in relation to Mumbai's airport, although on a busy Friday evening it took just on one hour departing from the hotel at 6pm to the international terminal, instead of the expected half hour due to the chaotic traffic conditions--therefore, do not cut your timing too close, especially as the airport security procedures are lengthy. The hotel is closer to the domestic terminal. NOTE: There is another Hyatt (possibly built earlier than the Grand), even closer to the airport. The service in the Grand Hyatt, particularly front desk staff, is outstanding and every request was carried out with efficiency and cheerfulness--although it must be noted that my husband, who was in another part of the country, tried to ring me on the morning after my arrival the previous evening to be told I was not registered as a guest, despite his having confirmed my reservation earlier in the week, and had even arranged for a hotel car to pick me up from the airport. However, he persisted and all was sorted after an anxious half-hour. One small niggle: I would like to see more shady landscaping around the pool--it's a little too minimalist in the tree department, given the year-round heat of Mumbai. All up, a beautiful hotel for those not wanting or needing to go all the way into the city--this can take take up to 2 hrs. from the airport if traffic is bad, which it frequently is. I much prefer this hotel to the over-hyped, overly pretentious Taj Palace opp. the 'Gateway To India' monument in the city, where, although the public rooms are beautiful, the rooms I've seen are looking rather tired and dated--think they're surviving on their old reputation. If anyone needs a top quality hotel right in the city, try instead the super-mod Oberoi, or the Hilton, which has a groovy casual restaurant serving top-class modern food. These 2 hotels leave the Tired Taj for dead."
