| "We had booked a one-bedroom villa for 4 nights but were given a two-bedroom villa instead as there was a shortage. Of course we were delighted as we got a bigger pool and more space to move around without having to pay more.
We had booked the villa purely based on what we saw and read on the internet and when we reached the reception area, we were pretty surprised. There were no long driveways, grand arches or a row of people to greet us. Okay, maybe we were expecting something like Banyan Tree and that's really not a fair comparison. After all, we didn't pay the exhorbitant amount like we did at Banyan Tree.
When the van stopped at the entrance, it was immediately the reception area. There was no gate or security checkpoint too! I thought after the Bali bombings, security guards and checkpoints have become a common sight. There was a 24-hour security guard at the entrance though but somehow that didn't feel as secure as a gate with a checkpoint like at most other resorts.
In fact, the whole compound was not surrounded by any form of wall or fence, which means that from the public walkway, we could just walk to our villa without having to pass the reception area. Granted, it was not a big compound and each time somebody walked on the walkway, the security guard would come up to check who it was. There are only 8 villas and a suite and they are all within short walking distance from the reception area (and security guard). But no wall or fence?? I think security could definitely be tighter.
We were also surprised to find out that the Bora Bora Villas did not have a restaurant. That is why breakfast is served in the villa. It's not difficult to get food though. All we had to do was walk out a little and we were spoilt for choice as to which restaurant to go to.
What took us most by surprise was what happened when we were in the pool on the second last day. I was in the pool while my husband was seated on a deck chair by the pool. He looked into the water and said that there were small worms in the water! I totally freaked out and got out of the pool.
We thought it was a mosquito larva. My husband fished out one of them and upon close scrutiny, it wasn't. It could be the larva of another insect or just a water worm. Whatever it was, we didn't enter the pool again. We think it's because the water in the pool was not chlorinated (we didn't smell the chlorine) and that's why such organisms could survive in the water. Yikes!" |
