| "Was supposed to stay at Aston Villas in Sanur but upon arrival at Bali, the Aston Villa's manager came to pick me up at the airport upon my request. He informed me that there was some problems with the villa that was assigned to me and they had to transfer me to Kamuela, their 'sister' villa.
Anyway, spent 5 days at Kamuela. Villas are quite new, opened in Aug 2007 according to the staff. I think it's not yet complete as there was a worker laying bricks to build a wall along the pathway to the villas. But work was done very quietly and did not affect the operations of the villa.
The villas are near Bali Deli.. near a number of other villas in the Seminyak area. However, it's futher in from the road. There is a minor road leading into the villa. The first 100-200m of the road is already tarred.. but the rest of the road is is gravel and sand. As there was rain while I was there, there were puddles on the road. Area along the minor road at Bali Deli is developed nearer the Deli (had a park and another villa) but further in is less developed. There are plots of undeveloped land, there were even a few buffalos and some local building/housing.
They provide one way shuttle to nearby areas such as Kuta shopping area or beach.. Just have to ring the villa staff and they are most willing to assist the shuttle.
Can easily get a meter cab to send you back to the villa and the landmark is Bali Deli.
The area is also near Legian street (about a 5-10 min walk). A major road where both sides of the road are lined with shops. I did the most of my shopping for souvenirs there.
Villa staff were very hospitable, well trained, eager to please but yet non intrusive. Very friendly and helpful.
B'fast was cooked by the chef in the villa.. choice of american, continental or indonesian, with fruits and juices.
There was a 2 door fridge, microwave oven, 2 hob gas stove, crockery and hot and cold water dispenser. Very well equipped and near Bali Deli so can actually buy groceries to cook your meals or order room service.
There was complimentary 45 min Balinese massage. Complimentary mini bar (certain snacks/drinks).
I paid for one room villa for my booking at Aston. Was given a 2 bedroom villa at Kamuela. Villa had a swimming pool. Cleanliness of the pool could have been better cos there were insects getting drowned in the pool on a daily basis. Would have liked it if they could 'clean' the pool.
There were numerous insects around especially at night.. insecticide is provided so no worries. In any case, most of the insects died quite easily (like the next day). There were also ants and there were times there were ant trails so insecticide was handy. I didn’t see pests like cockroaches or rats. Had a couple of crickets, spiders and lizards. Saw a praying mantis on the last day. Had some butterflies as well.
Decoration of the villa is quite close to pictures from their website. With king sized bed and sofa in the bedroom, complete with chandelier.
Living room area is slightly different. The armchairs are similar but the coffee table was different. Didn't really like sitting on them cos they were quite short. Dining area had individual black leather like chairs. There were also 2 fans to keep the area cool. There were no bar stools in my villa though.
Some downsides of the living/dining area was that it's not very sheltered from heavy rain. So certain parts of the living area would get wet.
On that note, if it rains, you can try to keep yourself dry by walking under the 'shelter' from the slightly extended roof as you move from bedroom to living/dining area or even to the main door. Or just carry your own umbrella. Villa had umbrellas as well but these were only at the reception area. Would have been nice if they could provide umbrellas for each villa. I guess that guests can always call staff to request for umbrellas where necessary.
Bedroom was big! With a king size bed, and a very comfy 2 seater sofa. Decoration is very much like what's in the pictures. My villa’s bedroom had another lcd tv so I spent the most of my time in the air condition room. Turndown service is also available, but staff only did that when I was not in the villa in the evening.
Bathroom was all white as shown in their website pictures. There was a water feature next to the bath tub for you to enjoy the sound of flowing water. Shampoo, conditioner, bath salt, body lotion and soap were provided. 2 bottles of spring water was given daily. Apart from bath towels, face towels and hand towels, there were also bathrobes and bedroom sandals.
All facilities were in the villa so I stayed in the villa most of the time unless I explored the area. Their wi fi was not yet ready but villa staff offered to let me use their office computer which had broadband.
Enjoyed my stay there and would most likely go back to the villa if I return to the Seminyak area, given reasonable rates." |
