"Brilliant - perfect civilisation in a tropical environment."

"Kubu gets a really positive review in the Rough Guide stating that it comparable with Tegal Sari in Ubud - where we were previously and had a great stay - so were looking forward to our one night there. It was awful. The room was filthy - moth-eaten curtains, insect nests in the mosquito net, shabby towels, dirty light switches; very poorly lit with the light in the (outdoor) bathroom not working at all. The room was surrounded by ponds that were heavily populated with both extremely noisy frogs and a plethora of mosquitoes. To top it all off the staff were very surly - first time we have encountered this in Bali. The porters complained bitterly about carrying our bags to the room, and the receptionist over-charged us for a transfer the following morning to Padang Bai (10 minutes drive) to the tune of IR100,000! The whole place has a feeling of decay and neglect -needless to say, I wouldn't recommend Kubu!"

"The reason why i would choose to stay in Kubu Bali again is becoz it is in a relaxing & nice atmosphere & the blue ocean. I arrived late at Kubu Bali cuz it's a long way there. Think it's about 2 to 21/2 hour to the hotel from the airport. At night, it's pretty quiet cuz we are the only guest staying around the cluster of bungalows. In the morning, I was awaken by the sound of rooster at 6am. I went out and was amazed at how i am so close to nature. The chirping of the birds is all that i could hear. I went out and each bungalows has a pond with lotus and fishes. The place is so nice and air is fresh. I love the day bed outside where i could lounge and relax. However, the climb uphill to the restaurant is a little bit tiring. Luckily, we were given a room that is closer to the reception. We went to have breakfast and sat there staring at the dark blue ocean in the distant. We could even hear the ringing sound of the bells from the cows uphill and were surprised to see many cows eating grass up there. As we live in a busy and stressful enviornment, we appreciate it very much and sat there chatting while enjoying the view, sound around us and the breakfast. After breakfast, we went to swim and play in the lovely swimming pool which there were only two of us. The staff were friendly and they did their job well. I had a chat with one of the staff and he told me only 5 families were staying there and even ask me to go back there next year:) When we are about to check out, he even wait outside our room cuz my driver is at the reception and help us with our luggage even though we never asked for it. The thing i felt bad it's i did not give him any tip cuz i don't know how much to give but he still galdy chat with me and serve us. He is the same person that took our luggage to the room the previous night. When i request him to take photos for us, he gadly did it. I would love to return to this hotel again cuz i miss the quiet surrounding and the dark blue ocean. The only complaints i have are there is no complimentary water for the room and you had to buy from them and the steps up to the restaurant."

"Mr Wayan and team did everything to make our stay very enjoyable. Although there was no direct access to the beach, the views from the rooms and beautiful gradens made up for it. We loved the terraced gardens interspersed with ponds and each room tucked away from the main path. The swimming pool design was most interesting with pebbles lining the bottom and the occasional rock to perch on. Kubu Bali was great and you get fit after a few days of climbing up the slopes. "

"I have been at this beautiful hotel before, remembering lovely gardens and rooms. This time however service, unfriendly staff and quality of food has completely let this hotel down. It made the stay a miserable experience, which is a real shame given the beautiful setting and buildings. I suggest to get more cheerful staff and work on better quality service and food. We will not stay there again, given the service and attitude of staff was so bad. "
