This was one of the most unpleasant hotel stays in my experience. My wife wanted to get out of the hotel from the moment we walked into it. While the photos on Asiarooms seemed decent (which is why we booked it), the rooms were terrible, the bathrooms were a nightmare, the ACs werent working, and the entire place seemed like it was from the 1970s (and hadnt been refurbished since).
The bad experience started as we were being driven to Maharta Hotel. The place is deep inside a series of lanes that you would never find if you weren.t a local. While it does have access by the beach, you wouldnt be walking along the beach if you were returning with shopping bags.
We were initially allotted the Deluxe room, which was basically really bad. There was rust all over every metal fitting, the door to the room didnt lock properly, the AC was just acting as a fan, and we were scared to step into the bathroom.
We kicked up a real fuss, and to be fair to the management, they moved us into the Suite without any extra charge.
The suite was really not much better. The ventilation in the bathroom was really bad. The tub didnt really look inviting, and the shower didnt have a hook where we could hang it, so we had to hold it in our hands, which ended up in spraying the entire bathroom.
Needless to say, we checked out after one night, and moved into a cheaper, and vastly better hotel.
