Would I stay at this location
again:

Absolutely!
The location of this hotel has to be seen to be believed. Situated down a quiet side-road, it is a short ride from the traffic and bustle of Ubud town but a million miles away in its ambience. On one side is a steep-sided, tree-covered river valley and on the other views over terraced rice fields. The grounds are green and lush, well maintained without being too formal and full of birds, insects and lizards. At the riverside resteraunt and nearby spa you could be in the middle of the jungle - well, you pretty much are! We had a very good, spacious room with an excellent bathroom; the villas looked nice too. Good mixture of guests - perhaps not ideal for younger children though. First-class facilities: free internet access, library, infinity pools, bar. And outstanding customer service! They noted from my passport that it was my birthday during our stay, and on the day a cake and some flowers were sent to our room. Real attention to detail that makes the difference. Not the cheapest, but great value for money. I'd go back tomorrow.

"We had stayed at the Maya in July 2005 and loved it. This time we came having stayed at the Uma and we do not know whether that was the reason we were disappointed. The weather this August was particularly bad and it rained for 3 days while we were at the Maya which of course did not help as we could not take advantage of the beautiful grounds, play tennis or go on outings. The hotel was full, which makes it quite different to two years ago when it was only 1/3 full. The client base seems to have shifted from Europeans (and Japanese) to Australians (and Japanese). Whether this is linked or not, I do not know, but we found the breakfast buffet less good than before. There was very little choice in cereals, fruits were not ripe. We ate in both restaurants and found they had reduced quantities. Whereas two years ago we would have a hearty breakfast and last until the evening meal, we had to eat at lunch time this year (as we had not had a satisfactory breakfast). Portions were small. If staying in Ubud, we would choose the Uma over the Maya. Also, the villas are nice (and expensive)but the bedrooms are quite plain."

"one of the best hotels i have ever been... nice river views... fantastic experience... all my families really liked it... five out of five"

"Nice beautiful hotel, a notch abv average. You pay for the beautiful location, river side board walk, beautiful landscape pools. Good service. Large size room, but basic amenities. Pity the beddings are not feather quilts and pillows. That will complete the stay. For the price, one can stay at other equivalent hotel like the Uma Ubud with nicer amenities in room and well balanced experience."

"We upgraded in a Villa and you realy have to stay in a villa to enjoy this hotel. The location is superb and you have to try the SPA. It is WONDERFULL!!!"

"MAYA has one of the best landscape. the walk around the hotel's ground is just refreshing. there are two pools and i recommend anyone to spend as much time as possible with them. the service was just excellent as anything i asked for was deliver within minute to my room. the staff at the pool also bring us drinking water and refreshing towels without asking for."
